Is this what you mean? Are you asking two questions?

rear gear must pull much harder than first.......

but I don't feel difference between first & rear gear when shifting............ & often get mixed up......

When shifting into reverse you should feel a gate, press harder and that gate will open. You will hear it "pop" then you know your in reverse.

Same for first gear, move it into position. You will feel the gate and at that point go straight forward for first gear.

Takes some practice if its your first time, but you should get use to it

I think he means that the pop that we feel isn't there on his so it will go just as easily into reverse as it does to first. Where we have to "yank" ours to get it into reverse.

I useally do the "if this is first here second should be down here" I do this about 75% of the time before I start moving. I shift into 2nd before I shift to 1st just to make sure that I'm not going into reverse.
