why bother

im not trying to be rude or start an argument by posting this on a " focus fanatics" forum ( cus god knows i love driving the svt focus i bought for my girlfriend) but, i bought her this car to buy aftermarket parts for so she could work on her car and leave me alone while i work on mine... lol... anyways, it seems all the bolt on parts for these cars other than a tune or f/i are completely worthless from what ive been told on this board. i mean hoorah for ford extracting all the power it could from this little four cylinder but if thats the case why are we all wasting our money on these horsepower bolt on parts if they will do nothing to improve the performance of the engine why not just save and buy a supercharger or turbo kit?

i mean hundreds of dollars for a few hp and tq thats horrible. if this is as fast as the cars gonna be with out f/i ill just getone of those little blowers for her car she can wrench on that, at least she'll feel a difference when shes done and not be dissappointed, or maybe feel and intake or exhaust upgrade.

LOL Welcome to my world, while I didnt buy my SVTF to make it fast I am suprised by the lack of options for preformance upgrades from what I have read.

There is alot of little stuff but nothing big and your almost always giving up something to improve something els. I am cool with that lol I am just going to make my look good and sound good and then save up to turbo it.

I mean there are always comsmetic mods you can have her do...

Well you are sort of correct. You will see gains from alot parts i.e. CAI, ORP, catback, throttle body, UDP's plus not to mention all the suspension and brake mods that are out there. And to be honest, there really was never a huge aftermarket for SVT's so not alot of parts were made unlike something like a Civic where there are thousands upon thousands of them running around.

YUP! The only thing some of the parts do is change they way it drives... Tune, TB, ORP or HFC, etc... They dont really give you any power..

Everyone always gets hooked on looking at peak numbers... true alot of you bolt ons dont give much much increase of the "peak" power numbers but they all pretty much give you descent gains below peak... where you do 90% of your driving.

if your worried about her not feeling a difference she will. The car WILL be quicker and more fun to drive, with a TUNE, CAI, EXHAUST, TB. (Listed in order of purchase)

Those are the mods I would do if my car was N/A. It really helps the drivability all through the RPM range. Just doesn't increase PEAK

Bullseye! Just a "stock" Tune from Focus-Power made my SVT MUCH more livable simply driving around at 3000rpms and less...and yes the smoother power delivery and bit of extra power everywhere is a bonus.

For those that know the term, I'm all about "area under the curve" more than anything else. A peak is just that, a peak...I don't care a bit about it.

so what you guys are saying is that even thought the peak hp isnt changing the bolt ons still make the car faster buy increaseing lower speed power and torque in the lower rpm range. that would be wonderful because then she would feel it, with it being more low end grundt but howmuch power and torque are we talking here? what type of an improvement on these boltons such as a cai, tbody, catback, and orp or hfc and witch of the last two would you recommend? does a catback and hfc or orp make a real raspy sound or do they stay more like a mellow burble. i dont want her car to bereal raspy and loud just sporty and deep sounding is that possible.

thanks

nick
