I've achieved a pretty substantial increase in MPG

I filled up my gas tank on Sunday, 4/20 at Mobil with 91 octane, and I decided I would do an experiment. My average speed prior to gas reaching $4.00/gallon was between 80 and 90 MPH. But with the advent of astronomically high gas prices reaching a new level, I decided on Sunday night that I would try and average about 70 MPH, and that I would NOT go over 75 MPH at all costs.

So I drove 150 miles between Sunday and Tuesday afternoon, and I held true to my word by crusing at 70 almost the whole time. By the time Tuesday rolled around, I had used 3/4 of my tank and driven a scant 150 miles.

Now I'm sure you're all wondering what the hell was going on, so I'll tell you. I removed my K&N Panel filter yesterday afternoon and "recharged" it which involved tapping it face down on the cement as dirt, grass, and believe it or not a bee carcass fell to the ground. Then I sprayed it, left it for 30 minutes, washed it off (one way only), left it to dry for another 45 minutes, and then put the pink animal fat on it, wiped it off with a paper towell, and then dried it, and installed it. I let my car idle for a while to make sure the pink animal fat wouldn't clog the throttle body/mass air flow sensor. When I drove it I noticed IMMEDIATELY that I had ~30% more pulling power at low RPMs, and shifts seemed much more smooth.

Between yesterday after my "recharge", and today at about 8PM, I drove 120 miles on 1/4 of a tank reaching a total of 270 miles since Sunday on 11.01 gallons.

Needless to say I'm very excited to run this tank down at < 75 MPH to see how many miles I can go. I'm shooting for 300, but I have a feeling I will exceed that number by a good margin. So people, if you haven't cleaned your air filter in a while and your gas mileage is suffering, it is definitely something to look into!!

I just got 280 miles before the light went on which is average for summer time driving but I usually never drive over 70 so your car is running pretty well imo. during the winter it drops to more like 200-220 between fill up lights.

The most I ever got was 342, it was mostly highway miles and the low fuel light was on for about 30 miles, when I filled up it took about 11.9 gallons so...

I'm so sick of seeing all of these car commercials where they advertise "35 miles per gallon!" Like its going to save you so much money... It doesn't matter if they come out with a car that gets 50mpg, gas prices should not be as high as they are!

Its pretty sad when you have to take your credit card along to the gas station with you just to fill up the lawn mower! I use to be able to grab a fist full of change, fill the lawn mower, and buy a pop!

Sorry for the rant, it was a bit off subject, just saying what most of us are feeling.

People freak out when i tell them my car takes premium, but even then my gas bill is about the same as my wifes 06 ZX5. Mines only about $2-3 more per fill up which we both are still under 40.00 per fill up. <-- beats $60-70 on some trucks and SUVs!

Yeah I shouldn't complain about the premium thing. I'm at 45 bucks for 11 gallons of gas (4.09/gallon), so I have absolutely no choice but to lower my average speed a little bit. I also notice the oil temperature light will drop significantly while on the freeway if the car is kept at about 3000 RPMs (70mph), and then the engine temperature will also drop slightly, so it must be good! Right now it's at 35 miles and it's just barely below the first line. I'll post up final mileage on this tank. I revved it out once but I don't think it will make much of a difference.

I usally fill up at the 3/4 mark. This last weekend I had gotten 31 mpg with the SVT! I couldn't believe it! I was crusing at speeds from 60-70 mph with some stoping and going. My 07 duratec gets an average of 28 mpg with a best of 34 mpg with that.
