Low speed timing...10deg???

Using a scantool, I observed 10deg timing advance at low engine speeds (from idle to about 1500rpms)...does this sound correct? I have a 2002 stock SVT.

I have a problem with low power at low engine speeds and what sounds like pre-ignition. I'm certain it's related to the igntion strategy, because it was horribly worse when my heat shields were loose, which I theorize falsely activated the knock sensor and caused the ECM to remove timing.

The pre-ignition sounds remarkable similar to the sound the engine makes under severe traction control events...when I'm messing around in deep snow or ice and forget to turn it off. My thinking is the timing is so far retarded, that pre-ignition occurs before the true timing event happens.

Thoughts anyone?
