New SVT owner has some ?s

I just got an 02 SVT focus. It has 85k on it and its from tennesse so its salt free(I am in upstate NY) I paid 6200 for it and its in great shape and has been dealer maintaned. I know this as it has all motorcraft stuff on it. Even the brakes. My main question is about the variable runner intake manifold. My car seems very slow at low speeds and does not really seem all that fast at all. I am coming from a turbo supra and a turbo fiero but I just got home and I raced a base model 04 sedan and barely won. Sometimes the car bogs down when I take off. Other times it will squeak the tires when I launch. I have been doing everything the same yet the launch differs. May I have a broken DSI clip?? My MIL light is not on and never turns on no matter RPMs. Is there anything else I can look for?? It is not clutch slip either. The clutch holds strong in all gears. I was also curious how all you guys know your production numbers on your SVT. How can I tell?

nature of the beast ...pick up a power programmer, or a highly recommended supercharger your concerns will vanish like exhaust gases into the slowly declining ozone

so you dont think I have anything wrong?? I dont really want to modify the crap out of the car. I bought it cuz I wanted a gas saver to leave stock with some decent amount of power. I test drove one when they first came out and I remebered them having a little more get up and go. Maybe I was wrong. wouldnt be the first time.

I work at a Ford Dealer that IMRC (if broken) would be an easy visual inspection to verify but it would also throw a code. The SVT you own now (congrats by the way) does have 85,000 miles so expect it not to perform like a new one. If you dont want to spend alot of money and save you some gas mileage get a programmer from TOM on these forums it will run you about 400.00 give or take a little. you will be pretty surprised....

Personnel note I think they developed the svt focus to be equipped with a supercharger and then didnt leaving the beefed up powertrain with a lack of power adder causing our hesitation concerns and stumbly low idle but thats my 2 cents

and i seen in your profile you listed your svt as being dark blue....your close but it's SONIC BLUE thought you would want to know ......welcome to the site

thanks for the help sonic. I just thought it was weird cuz I cant hear any sound differerance in the intake all the way to redline. I dont do it often as it is my gas saver but I love the car anyway. Thanks for the heads up on my color listing. I will change that around. Are there any cheaper ways to make power?? I dont want to have like 800whp like my supra as its fwd but i love seeing the look on other drivers faces when a focus takes off like crazy.

it probably is a broken dsi clip if you don't hear the difference in the intake around 5k or so. on the tach. My car has 77 thousand on it and it still feels peppy so it's somethin minor you can fix. I also have Tom's tune, though. the only other engine mods I have besides the tune is a drop-in k&n, a CFM HFC and a borla exhaust bought from b16sir1991 (a sponsor of the site). Good luck

Get a tune from Tom, do some bolt ons, and change your dsi clip. My dsi clip was stripping out on the inside. You couldn't tell that it was going bad, but the upper rpm power wasn't as it should be. Besides, if yours isn't broken now it will break. Do the dsi clip now and save the hassel. CFM has these. Get theirs it's black billet. My pal Svt did a great how to. You can find it on here. Good luck.

You can certainly check the DSI clip but I think your describing a normal SVT focus. I've learned that it just doesn't have low end grunt, and it will bog at times, but once above say 3000rpms the motor is a joy to drive. Lots of folks say the tune will get rid of this.
