Yet another SVT exhaust & HFC question

My SVT exhaust is completely stock and I have read numerous threads on what people have done (pelotonracer2's mods were cool!) but still remain a little unsure...

I plan to get a HFC and possibly do the lunch box delete. Now what else do I NEED to do if I do this?

1)Do I have to get a mid-section muffler mod - or leave the stock one in place? I don't want a load raspy sound - deep is Ok however.

2)What about the flex pipe? Does it just....flex?...... if so can the stock remain?


3)I have not found much on why SVT people change the large mid-section muffler (resonator?) - is this for noise or performance?

i believe its mainly for noise purposes... the flex should be fine the way it is. well the lunchbox is at the end of your exhaust so i owuld think you just cut it and add a section of pipe to extend as the tailpipe.

thanks, yes thats what I plan to do and re-use the tail pipe tip - so it looks good.

mid-muffler section mod?

the H/F-Cat or ORP will be the best thing you do to the SVT exhaust. the rear lunchbox mod is for just a little sound and mostly for looks.

the flex doesnt need replacement either.
the front resonator is just to keep that header from screaming so loudly. it WILL be raspy if removed.

Thank you - wrong term - but you answered my question anyway. By mid - I meant not the front of the car and not at the back - but I suppose it is more to the front on inspection! - so "front" it is

To jump in here, being in the same boat as the OP (bone-stock exhaust):

(1) can I JUST get, say, the CFM H/F-Cat and have that installed? (it looks like Scrammer may have already answered that, but just to be sure...)

(2) Will doing so solve the damn bracket-breaking-and-rattling problems of the stock cat? (Does an H/F-Cat such as CFM's even HAVE brackets?)

I solved ALL the rattling in my car by removing the header heat shield, and the cat shield, but then I removed the cat and put a RT High flow cat on and no, it doesn't come with any brackets, it just directly bolts on. Once the old piece of shit is off, which took me most of the time, the new one is a sinch to install. Make sure you use LOCK WASHERS on at least one of the screws so that they hold tightly and don't get loose.

So the RT HFC is light enough that it doesn't put any undue stress on the header sans-brackets?

The RT HFC is pretty light compared to the original cat, but I have never heard of it causing a problem without the bracket. Mine seems to be holding perfectly fine. It is a noisy bugger on downshifts but I got used to the popping which is merely more pronounced. It definitely gave me some power though.

However, I'd probably go with the CFM over the RT to save a few bucks...
