I went with the Taylor wires and Motorcrap copper cores gapped to .060, world of difference. I could tell right away the engine ran smoother and revved faster. Nice cheap upgrade, total was around 56 bucks for all.

2009 Aftermarket Plug Wires

You know what sucks about buying new cars? Finding decent parts for them. I want to upgrade my plug wires because the stock ones aren't that great to say the least. Any suggestions where to find such an animal for an 09?

You realize that you shouldnt have plug wires on your car dont you... since you should have a coil on plug setup.

With some hotter wires (Taylor, FRPP, etc) you can open the gap to .060.
But, if you're on some 5 year old stock wires (I see you have a 2003) I'd stick with the factory gap of .051.

i have the 1.8 petrol zetec engine.. the ford manual tells us to use 1.000. but everybody seems to be talking bout 0.060...

I'm sure your manual is saying 1-millimeter, which equals .039-inch (which is the units we use for gap).
.060-inch equals 1.52-millimeters, which might be a bit too much (50% increase),
without a substantial increase in spark energy with good wires and really hot coil.

BTW, the engine we're discussing in this thread is comparable to the ST-170 (2.0-Duratec) in Europe.

^^^Just don't go too far.
Most of us that opened the gap to .060 use copper plugs (much better conductor than platinum) and have 8.5mm or 9mm wires.

If you go too far, you'll end up with a mis-fire under load.
