Talking Installed #1-brand CAI today some thoughts

First of all, I have to start this thread with the price of this item-57.25 + 21.00 for "sale" K&N=78.00....for that price, you expect to have to do some "tweaking" to get things right.

The kit arrived with each peice being individually bubble packed in a fairly large (2'X2'x4.5') box....the instructions that came with it were a joke-you are much better served going to the FAQ section and checking out the AEM CAI install instructions-they are identical. Some of the issues I encountered during this install:

1)It took a bit of reaming with a rat tail file to get some of the sprue off of the MAF mounting point on upper pipe so that the MAF would sit flush.

2)Then I realized that the rubber connectors were a little short and that the bend on the upper pipe is a few degrees off-this means that you really have to torque the clamps down well to prevent the fitting from coming off(like it did after my first test-drive post-fitment).

3)The bracket for the radiator support required some bending with some vise-grips to line up correctly and then.....there are those ^%^# lock-nuts they supply with this kit!!! I don't know who came up with that arrangement, but they should be beaten to within an inch of their lives !!! I needed a 3/8" box wrench and a rachet/socket to hold them in place while I torqued them....I didn't need jackstands-everything went in without them.

Just remember to take your time....give yourself double the time that the instructions say....Murphy is always around to screw things up.

Impressions of this system are very positive!! For "bang for the buck" you can't beat it!! Nice induction noise, much improved throttle response...not only that, the stupid "flutter" that everyone gets between 3-4k appears to have gone away-probably because the MAF is a little farther along on the intake tract than it was with the stock location. NOPI has a few of these systems left-I checked back on the site and the price went up on them something like 5$ but still a great bargain!

Sorry....

There's been some confusion....I purchased a #1 Brand CAI that came with a cheesy "Stainless Steel Mesh" filter for 58$.....I dumped the stainless filter for a K&N I picked up on sale for 21$ locally....here's the part:
