It doesn't sound all that great to me, but you can give it a shot... It's not like exhaust work is irreversable...

Just an Fyi the Stock Exhaust is a goofy size so you may want to have access to a pipe expander. The External dimension of the pipe is around 2.28

You could just swap the cat for an ORP. The sound is mild and not raspy at all.

Any reason why your modifying the svt exhaust? With the exception of the CAT, it is supposed to flow extremely well.

I have to agree. No reason to modify just the exhaust.

Stock, the exhaust flows really very well. The stock exhaust has a nice throaty sound to it. Others have driven my car and from the outside, it sounds great.

The tone really started to deepen around 35K miles. I have almost 50K now.

A couple of things to keep in mind if you are considering swapping out exhaust. I don't car WHAT the after market vendors claim. You will NOT get appreciable horsepower gains by modifying exhaust. Especially cat back systems.

The biggest reason is back pressure. You LOSE HP and torque when you open up the back end, but not the front. So, unless you are running a cold air intake, larger throttle body, possibly larger injectors, supercharger and/or turbo, your best bet is to leave it stock. You need more air/fuel to maintain compression lost by opening the back end.

However, I did change out my stock exhaust on my 96 Firebird. Why? I bought a muscle car that didn't sound like one. I ran a 3 inch cat back system made by Borla wide open without any of the diffuser discs installed. Mid range was OK, but the car fell flat on its face from a dead stop. So, I called Borla directly. By running the exhaust wide open, the engine was losing necessary backpressure to maintain compression. The result was a net loss of 12% to both HP and torque. I installed the mid level diffuser disc (at their recommendation) and the difference was very noticable. Was it any quicker than stock? My 1/4 mile times before and after indicated a big fat NO.
So, if you are looking for HP gains just swapping exhaust isn't going to get you there. If you are looking for a more aggressive sound, save your money and wait till about 35k miles and for whatever reason, the system opens up and has a better tone.

If you are looking to make the neighbors wet the bed when you come rolling in at 2:00 a.m., then go for it.
