Question Clutch chatter at 56k looking for info

Hi all, I noticed that my clutch has been chattering sometimes at idle with the clutch depressed (clutch out, foot off). If i then press & release the clutch it stops, but every time i come to a stop and idle it starts to chatter. the clutch still grabs and releases as if it were new, and has never slipped on me (even at 7250 WOT) My last car was a 92 5.0, and i had put in a "king cobra" clutch, and it was on a cable instead of hydraulic system so I'm new to this. my questions are:
1. what could be causing this?
2. to me it seems bad, so im driving like a panzy (shifting at 2000-2500, easy on the throttle etc.) but should i even worry about it?
3. i have the 100k extended powertrain warranty, will this be covered by the clutch TSB or is it too late?
4. is there anything i can do that will help it until i can afford a new clutch/flywheel setup?

any help would be appreciated

IIRC that chatter is from the pressure plate, which is part of the SVT TSB. Give me a second and I'll pull some info off of that TSB...

Tada!

Quote:
Some 2002-2004 SVT Focus vehicles may exhibit premature clutch wear, or a clunking and rattling noise in the transaxle, mainly at idle in neutral. The noise can typically be reduced by fully depressing the clutch pedal. The premature clutch wear or noise may be caused by the dual mass flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate or by transaxle alignment.
Tell your dealer to reference TSB# 04-21-19

I had a similar noise in my ST that ended up being my pressure plate. I could hear it at like fast food places or the ATM where my engine noise bounced off a wall I was parked next to. I was told that emphasizing that fact would be of use to the dealer, so that's what I told them.

I have the same problem it doesn't always chatter for me tho sometimes it will sometimes it won't everyone I've talked to says not to worry about it. Unless its slipping or grinding let it go. Idk if I trust that or not but that's what the shops around here have told me. So I don't beat on. But I'm planning on getting a new clutch n flywheel as well. This thread will help us both out lol

The only bad thing about the tsb is if ur out of warranty then your pretty much gonna have to just bite the bullet n buy a new clutch urself. I took mine in and they sed" this isn't covered under tsb" n I said yes it is look here is the tsb and they said" this is only a a guide for us and that part isn't covered". So I'm pretty sol but I'm pretty sure you said you bought the extra one so you should be ok

Thanks for the input guys, but it looks like im sol as per this portion of the TSB "Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage" I'm out of the new vehicle limited warranty period and into my extended vehicle warranty period...looks like its lightweight flywheel and clutch time come this spring...my laptop will have to wait...

Yep...you're done.

I had the same issue last month and the dealer wouldn't budge.

However, interestingly enough, as part of the TSB, Ford replaces the dual mass flywheel with a single. The part numbers are different and they don't even put in the OEM clutch anymore.

I am good friends with the shop foreman at my local dealer and he advised me to go aftermarket (which is what most here have done I believe).

Roughly the same cost, reduced/eliminated slippage and longer average life.

I went with a Clutchmaster Stage 3.
