clutch install in illinois

So I took my car to the ford dealer today because my clutch have been clicking when its not pushed down..they told me it was my clutch and they sed it would take 1600 to fix.. Might as well go aftermarket for that much.. I need it asap tho becuz he sed it could blow anyday if I keep drving on it.. Does anyone know a good place to put in a clutch in northern illinois I live 30 mins out of chi town.. And what clutch would b worth getting starting under like 800 I'm thinking spec stage 2 any one know how that is?

Usually when a dealer or shop says it'll blow anyday is when they want to keep you car to work on it. Spec stage II with a fidanza fly wheel installed should be way less than $1600 installed. I'm assuming you don't have a good mechanic to work with? Dunno good places near aurora? Good luck. How many miles on your 03? Have you tried Massive Speed Systems, they're in northern illinois.

Mac, your wheels = Sex!

On the clutch, get a CM Stg.3 and Flywheel. Its not that hard to do and any shop really could do it. As long as they dont remove the whole shifter assy. from the engine (only need to pop the ball and socket ont he cables at the linkage) then you are good. Other wise, I think you need the tool.

..and your clutch isnt going to blow up. They all rattle. Even aftermarket. At least mine did..

There's several tuner shops in the northern Illinois area that'll install a clutch for you. You could try One Six or AMS in Arlington Heights.....or Factory 5 in Schaumburg. Mind you One Six and Factory 5 mostly cater to the "H" camp and AMS is Mitsubishi mostly, but anything with forced induction. Plus they have an inhouse dyno if you want to see what your Fofo puts down at the wheels.

Their store in Wheeling closed. Which I find a good thing because those owners were a bunch of arrogant a-holes. If you didn't play for the Chicago Bulls or the Chicago Bears....they could care less about your money.

Unless you have a pre-TSB clutch with the exploding pressure plate, the clutch isn't going to "blow," typically the worse that will happen is the disc will slip between the flywheel and the pressure plate and its a pain in the ass to drive until you fix it. And if you let it go long enough it'll eventually get to the point where it won't move at all.

I'd stay as far as humanly possible away from CM clutches unless you want to include replacing your clutch every 20,000 miles as part of your routine maintenance schedule. I had a CM4 put in (I was planning on going turbo at the time, and still am) and got a little over 20,000 on it before it started slipping...and this was with near stock power levels on a clutch rated past 400 HP, and I don't drive like a 16 year old who doesn't know how to drive a manual. Case in point, I replaced the CM4 with a Spec 4 and its already outlasted the CM and still engages at about the same point that it did when I installed it.

As far as putting it in...after having done my own install I wouldn't pay someone to do it. Its not easy by any stretch of the measure, but at the same time its not impossible.
