What are the best starter mods?

I just bought an '03 SVT. It has 18K miles and the only performance "mods" are 9MM plug wires and a drop-in hi flow air filter. My question is what are the best mods to begin with?

Also:
- I have been researching for the last week or so and it seems that the ECU mod is very popular. Many people seem to go with the Diablo sport with a custom tune (Tom or Mike)--is the custom tune that much better than the pre-programmed one?

- Also the short throw shifter seems cheap and popular?

- I don't se much on CAIs? Pros Cons?

Thanks

Lance

Yes, a custom from Tom is better than pre-programmed.

STS is great cheap mod and benefits from the rear motor mount (MAC or VF) and gear balance delete (WD-40 how to section)

CAI, Short Ram or Stock panel filter some people swear by them all but its a test and love job you need to figure out on your own.

Tune, TB, Intake, STS, VF mount, and High Flow Cat/Off Road pipe. Those are inexpensive mods. Do the counter weight removal to. It's free and takes about 20 min to do. Here's the link. “How To”-Getrag Shift Linkage-Counterweight Removal
These things aren't going to make you a 13sec car, but it will make it more responsive and easier to drive.

yes go with a STS (short throw shifter), VF Lower engine mount, and a tune from Tom. Also lower the thing with some springs :D

I wouldn't really do the CAI. I have one and it's a bit of a pain needing to watch where you go whenever it rains and wondering if that puddle is too deep. Forget it keep the stock box with the drop in. Works just as good you might lose a couple hp but who cares.

Two things that I've done to my car that have made an improvement have been stage II ported throttle body (my friend has been performing this mod for many SVTF owners) and synthetic Redline Transmission fluid. The ported TB greatly improves the throttle response and picks up a little bit of power. Before this mod I would have to go pass half throttle to get the car to move. Now, just a touch of the throttle gives me instant power. The transmission fluid really smoothed the feel when changing gears...

Braided stainless brake lines is an inexpensive performance mod too, it really firms up the brakes.

I thought the SVT's cams shouldn't be touched cause their already the best? don't go ORP. I had one and I like my HFC a lot better.
