For new svt owners...

Well I figuered that being a new SVT owner myself i would start a thread so members can post things that most svts do but you may be worried about such as why all svt motors click. Well thanks for the input.

lol, nice thread man...welcome to the forums

All SVT's click! All SVT's make strange noises here and there.

Strange things are normal with our cars since they are "high performance machines"

My car has been dying at stop signs once in a while..this is not normal, so my cars in the shop.

The clutch from factory has been known to go out kinda early. The thermostat housing goes bad from time to time. I've heard of quite a few brackets for the catalytic converter breaking. Nothing too serious. Some hissing from the intake, no alarm.

Lets see here:

1. Non TSB clutch wears quickly and can wreck transmission.
2. Throttle bodies tend to be sticky
3. DSI electrical connector breaks off.
4. Stock tune causes poor low-end response, floating idle and engine stalling.
5. Alternators are weak, tend to fail if stereo is upgraded.
6. Horn shorts out in the rain.
7. Valve cover frequently leaks, difficult to install gasket correctly.
8. VCT gasket leaks, difficult to install gasket correctly.
9. Rear brakes wear out quickly.
10. Shifter cables tend to come off, preventing shifting.
11. Thermostat housing is weak, has metal plug that causes housing to fail prematurely.
12. Rims are weak, bend easily.
13. Cat heat shield is flimsy, rattles until it falls off.
14. Visors are trash (true of all Focus')
15. Pressure plate, once the clutch starts slipping, "explodes", destroying transmission.
16. Parts can be difficult to find (ie. thermostat housing, spark plugs, etc.)
17. Header runs very close to the ground, very easy to damage.
18. Hood fragile, bends easily; when closing the hood, lower to 2" and drop.
19. Fog light lenses are glass, very suseptable to breakage from road debris.
20. Rear engine mount too soft to prevent engine from hitting firewall on strong acceleration.
21. Passenger engine mount wears quickly and tends to break.

4. Stock tune causes poor low-end response, floating idle and engine stalling.
9. Rear brakes wear out quickly. ( this probably has to do that they increased the pressure to the rear to make the car more flat while braking in curves )
12. Rims are weak, bend easily.
13. Cat heat shield is flimsy, rattles until it falls off.
19. Fog light lenses are glass, very suseptable to breakage from road debris.
22. TPS sensors are weak I have gone through 2.

Truly i have not had many problems. My Cat heat shield just fell off on the bottom but the top is still there it has never rattled. I added a 22 to that list and some say the stock tires wear out to quickly but I have 3 track sessions on my stockers and 33,000 miles and i am still not at the wear bars. I also have not had any clutch problems in 37,000 miles.

I only copied the ones from you that I have personally had.

I understand the point of this thread and I know it has good intentions too.

But I have had few to none of the problems listed and since I'm trying to sell my car, I don't like the generalizations that might get implied in this thread - people might think all SVTs are problem prone.

I guess a disclaimer is that the problems listed should not necessarily be generalized to all SVT Focuses - there are definite, known issues out there - I do not dispute that. However, just because there is a list does not mean every SVT will have any or all of those problems on the list.

My two pennies......

Other than the heatshield on the exhaust not being reinforced at the mounting points I've had very good results with both of mine. Of course mabe I take better care of mine.
But I suspect most of the complainers would be complaining of their Ferrari being to low, suspension to stiff, too expensive....
