trans question

Helo,
I posted about having an axle seal and axle bearing problem in my svt. I took it to the dealer and they said that the trans is shot and has a hole in the pasenger side of the trans case. They told me that the center diff let loose. I have a stock clutch with very little mods on the car. I find out next week if it will be covered by ford. My question is, what would make the diff break?
Andrew

I was taking it easy on the trans since my clutch was about shot. It did not go all at once, it started when I would turn, I would feel the wheel pull then it would be fine. 2k later, it started leaking from the axle seal, and was making a loud grinding/ popping noice when I would turn. That is when I took it to the dealer and they said the trans is shot. They said the diff broke and put a hole in the case of the trans. I just found out that it is covered. New tran, clutch, flywheel and motor mounts will be on the car when I get it back.
