Check to see if your DSI clip is broken. Common problem there. If it is still connected/not broken, the motor that controls it might be broken.

Carry on!

the clip or actuator maybe intact, but did you have the car running and check to see if it moved? might be stuck or the motor not working?

you could also stop by AutoZone or one of those places to see if you are throwing a DTC

Coming from an STi what does this "kick" really feel like? I can't say I feel a kick anywhere in my powerband. I have pretty constant power throughout. Also I do know my DSI is fixed because the dealer just fixed it...lol.

I noticed that when you don't floor the pedal all the way (like 3/4 down) and reach 6000 rpms, the dsi is much more noticeable than if you're flooring it. The sound changes and the revs go up faster. To see if your dsi is working, just check under the throttle body and get someone to start the car, you'll see the cable being pulled. My dsi clip was broken when I bought the car so we tapped a hole and put a screw in, locking it with a nut. Works flawlessly.
