Question N/A Power

How much power can I make N/A with a stock block? Not just bolt ons ,but cams ,pistons ,etc.

Depends on your compression , We have done a NA Zetec well over 200HP at the wheels

Compression is the #1 factor in HP , If your limited to 93 then like was said in the 160 to 170 range

So you can get more power on less octane? How extinsive of a build was the Zetec? Is it cheaper to just go FI? I just got burned by a guy who was going to build a turbo setup for me and I was thinking it would be nice to see around 250whp on an N/A engine. What kind of tq did you get out of the Zetec build up?

where did you get that idea from? Compression in general requires more octane. The higher the Octane, the slower, more predictable burn it has. thats good for a few reasons, first of all it'll keep the insides of your engine cleaner cuz it also has more detergents, and also cuz it helps prevent predotonation.

FI and NA actually work kinda similar but use different delivery methods. NA just squeezes the air that it uses more to gain more pressure. more pressure = more power.

ex.) take three balloons and fill them up the same size. if you were to just take a needle to one it'll just pop right? well what happens if you squeeze one a little and take the same needle to it. it'll pop louder! well what happens if you squeeze the same balloon untill it pops without a needle? same thing that happens if you dont use quality parts to build your block. :)

FI gains the pressure by forcing more air into the cylinder.

ex.) blowing up a balloon until it pops.

With na you raise the static compression ratio, with fi you add PSI. which roughly means the same thing.

and yes FI is much cheaper for more than 200hp. 3k for a pw kit that'll get you 220hp

Some basics....

All engines are an air pump. The bigger the pump...all things being equal...the more power.

The faster you spin the pump.....so long as it remains efficiently pumping...the more power.

Engines burn fuel &air but it doesn't burn instantly. It takes time for the flame front to consume all the fuel in the cylinder. Increasing compression increases the burn speed.

Increased burn speed allows for less timing lead at lower rpm....this aids torque production.

Increased burn speed allows for higher engine speed which can make more HP.

Supercharging an engine makes it injest more air and act like a bigger engine.

Supercharging DOES increase cylinder PSI but that is NOT the main reason why it makes more power. If you built a very low compression supercharged engine that had the same 'pre-ignition' pressure as a same size high compression engine, it should make more torque because it is burning a LOT more fuel and air per rev.

Making a ton of N/A power means spinning the engine faster. WAY faster while allowing it to breathe efficiently. I'd believe that 200+ WHP IS possible....but not at 7250.

So from a cost aspect I should just go FI?

How much WHP from a Tune, CAI, and a High flow Cat on the SVT? From there I can't really think of a whole lot more to do to the SVT other than handling and performance things like mounts and suspensions and STS'....right? It seems like the SVT was born to eventually use some sort of FI!
