Thumbs up Interesting..

About a month ago, I remembered why I like the SVTF as opposed to other sport compacts that "claim" they have power, handling etc.

We were headed home on hour number 8 on a 12 hour drive and a Cobalt SS passed us as speed. I thought - great idea, let's get home faster by following this fellow. We also needed to reach the next pit stop as our bladders were getting full, so I decided to get there faster by hitting near top speed. Well, for some strange reason which I hadn't known before, the Cobalt SS slowed down. We lost him a few kilometres down the road so I decided to slow.

A few minutes later, he caught up and now I have a driving mate again. So I accelerate again with the Cobalt SS catching up fast. At this time my gf tells me the Cobalt SS has a supercharger and over 200hp. I thought - sounds good to me, so kept speeding up until I hit near top speed.

All of a sudden, I lose the Cobalt SS again. I see it going slower in my mirror.

A bit confused, my gf tells me that it probably has a speed limiter.

I thought - "What? A car like that with all that power wasted because it has a speed limiter?"

That was when I remembered why the SVTF was so special. No speed limiter, except it's limited by the HP/aerodynamic drag.

Ha, funny story sort of off topic but my friend got a call from somewhere down in mexico, turns out his dad who bought a $5 raffle ticket down there won a Cobalt.

The SVTF doesn't have a speed limiter? Hmm', I should explore that...

Nope it sure doesn't.
Heck I've had mine up to 135 at the top of 5th when I decided that was fast enough and slowed down to about 100.

Fixed it for you

[insert generic wisdom on posting specific extra-legal velocities]

not trying to be a dick, but unless you were on a nice downhill with a tailwind, there's no way you did 145 stock. the svt tops out at 135 redlining 5th gear, and the engine doesn't produce enough torque to overcome the wind resistance at that speed in 6th gear. top speed in 6th is only about 128.

not saying it isn't possible, but I'd have to see proof
