35mph to 40mph cruising.. 5th or 6th gear???

Just wondering what gear everyone with their svt's cruise in around 35 and 40 mph?

Just wondering because since I bought the car new ive always considered 6th a overdrive for 45 and over like my Firehawk. You think im huting my gas mileage since 50% of my driving is at this speed?

-Rick

^^^Neither gear as listed in your poll...
I'm in 3rd at 35 and 4th at 40 for around town driving, and rarely see 5th till 45+.
5th (and even worse 6th) would be lugging it pretty badly at 35-40.

BTW, 6th geat isn't overdrive at all.
It's a 1.08:1 ratio.

Being a V8 guy traditionally, I tend to shift early and often.

1-2 15mph
2-3 22ish mph
3-4 30 mph
4-5 37mph
5-6 42mph

I generally feel that 6th gear below 40mph is bad policy, feel like I'm working to motor to hard. I do a lot of cruising at about 45mph which IMO is perfect for 6th gear.

Might be time to tone that exhaust down by getting a HFC (high flow CAT).

FYI:
(numbers are rounded to nearest 100rpm)
3rd gear:
35mph - 2,700
40mph - 3,100
4th gear:
35mph - 2,200
40mph - 2,500
5th gear:
35mph - 1,800
40mph - 2,100
6th gear:
35mph - 1,500
40mph - 1,700
^^^That's way to low, and yes, most likely hurting your gas mileage.

none listed.

I'm usually putt-putting around 35 in 3rd, up to 45 in 4th, and 50 in 5th.
