I was always curious what that last idiot light was supposed to be on the oil cluster...is that supposed to be like a snowflake or something? What was the purpose?

I hear you, most of the time I want the stock part, but the SVT is becoming one of those cars where you have to use a little ingenuity to keep it going.

I will say I haven't had a gremlin from my own jobs after I started SOLDERING everything. If I didn't I would have a ton of problems, most of my mods are electrical gadgetry.

It's an ice warning light that was disabled in our market.

I could never figure out how to make it work like everyone else in that thread. It would be redundant for my car anyway, the auto dimming mirror with compass gives me the ice warning anyway as well as the actual temp.

A plain inverter like this will work.

I think this is would be the easiest way. With the lens off the aux oil cluster cut the red wires on the left from and connect them to the new inverter output. This will illuminate the aux gauges.

The main cluster has two red wires at the very top, splice these into the new inverter for illumination. (Take care not to break any of these wires from the sheets.)

Then power the inverter to a parking light circuit wire make it all work. (Whatever wire on back of the aux cluster that powered the old inverter will work.)

This process seems very complicated and untidy. Wouldn't it be easier/tidier to just replace whatever doesn't work any more from the back of the gauge cluster? One of these things sticking to the circuit board must be the original transformer/inverter thingy.

I put forth the question/request because I know nothing of electronics or circuitry or soldering.

The way I suggested is pretty much like wiring an aftermarket overlay kit. Plus other people have done this to their SVTFs they just never did any kind of writeup, that I can find anyway. The install can nice and tidy if you think it out.

Messing with the board could be as simple as re-flowing a bad solder joint. Otherwise something would have to be diagnosed and replaced, and that tiny stuff can be a nightmare to solder. Since I have an inverter in a box o crap somewhere I'd just throw it on if mine goes out and I would document it, (although I hope I don't).

Edit: Speedhut sells inverters again and doesn't have the redundant extra dimmer like all the ebay ones.
