2001 Transmission replacemetn - fix or junk?

Got an '01 Focus SPI with 120,000 miles on it. The transmission's going and mechanic tells me it'll cost about $950 to fix it. The car's worth that or less according to blue book. What should I do?

More details below:
I'm not mechanically inclined, so anything would be done by a mechanic.

It's got a laundry list of other small problems that I don't care about but make it worth less: backup lights don't work, switch to turn on the brights is sticky, and the catalytic converter needs to be replaced (Don't care so much about this one since Montana doesn't require me to pass emissions).

The valve seat hasn't dropped on it and from what I gather that's really just a matter of time.

I'm thinking I should just get rid of it because the SPI makes it a timebomb and it's possible something else will go out on it. It's just a whole lot of headache for not much car. It's been a great car, but I'm thinking it's time for her to be put out to pasture.

Do it. People don't realize they screw themselves by letting car fall apart to then need to sell it for max buck.

Take the loss then get another and treat it the same way, it always pays off (for somebody else).
