Lifters?

I just bought my focus and the engine roars...i've been told that it's the lifters or could it be something else? I'm open to suggestions

I am guessing you are simply hearing the atmosphere getting sucked in and general engine mayhem. Is it noisy at idle?

yeah the engine is loud...like i compared it to my friends and his engine is not like that...the noise is just a bit lower then a diesel Jetta....people told me that it could be bad lifters cause when they go bad they make the car noisy so i was just wondering if thats what it is

Rockers could be a little lose. That would also make the noise you hear. Do me a favor, please, be VERY CAREFUL when you reinstall the valve cover bolts. They WILL snap on you, and they snap right at the threads. The torque is in INCH pounds. I think it's like 6-7 foot pounds after you do the conversion.

Waterboy my focus ticks a little like that too I think it could be the rockers as well, but it gets quiet once it's been running for a little bit but it definatly sounds like the rockers/lifters tapping I dont know if its a bad one on my #1 piston or it's just takes a while for the oiling to get situated up there but I dont like it, probably should change em. Another question, if I get the double valve springs without getting a new cam would that negatively effect my engines performance or help it. I'm asking because sometimes I take it well into the 6s and even 7grand sometimes but not often.

I wouldn't get to worried, tig. It's not so much the RPM's that make coil-bind, it's the lift of the cam. Higher lift compresses the springs more, thus the name coil-bind.

If I have provided erroneous info, please feel free to correct me.
