SPI is overreving at startup

My "02" spi 2liter 5speed is over-reving from a cold start. After starting the problem does not occur again untill the car has set all night. I can restart during the day and all is fine. any ideas fofr cause?

you're going to need more info than that there buddy. how long roughly does it last and what rpm range if you have a tach and do you have any mods? Most cars do rev high on a cold start up to help them warm up as soon as they can. I know that my zetec revs kinda high for awhile on a cold start up but settles back down. Sometimes you can give it a little gas to have the car idle down after a little while.

It all depends. Like disco said, gotta have more info, it could be a need for an idle speed adjustment ot maybe it's just the fact that you live in Oregon where I'm sure it's cold at night. Cold temperatures tend to make cars rev like that after getting to the engine that long. Either way, I doubt it's a big problem for your car. Use your best judgement, and take it to the shop if you need to.
