SPI to zetec/duratec

I know this has been discussed before, and I apologize for dup's, but I have a few questions about swapping(it's my first time). If I were to buy a new ZETEC or Duratec from Ford ("Throttle body to oil pan - it's all here"), and an ib5 to link it to, what else do I need? Will I need a new ECU, driveaxles, and wiring harness?
For the same amount of work, then, how well would a v6 from a late-model Cougar XR work?

Hey I've got an 01 Focus and am going to put a SVT 2.0 in her.You will have to get a new ECM, I pretty sure you want need a wiring harness but I could be wrong but you will need to reprogram your pat.So that your key will read the system in order to crank your car.Now I do know that the Spi tranny will not bolt up to a Ztec engine you will have to get the MTX75 tranny for that.I my self found that I need is to take the engine out, drop the SVT engine and tranny in, reprogram the pat and put a ECM in and am ready to roll. The drive axles are going to have to be change I'll check and see frist thing tomorrow and get back to you on that.If you add a turbo or more high perfomance to the engine you will have to get an up grade on the axels to hold it. Now I've heard a v-6 is alitter more work to do.It can be done but there is alot of work and money to do that.I thought of doing that but theres not much difference in the torque from a svt and the V-6 maybe about 20 pounds difference.Yeah you have more HP's but your main goal here would to be to have just as much hp as torque more hp and not much torque will make you slow..If you got any ? hit me up and I'll try to answer them the best for you.hope this infor helped out..

To be perfectly honest: You'll go through all that trouble and cost and STILL have a Focus that's no d\ifferent than the ones that roll off the assembly line every day in Mexico. Save yourself the time, effort, and most of all money and trade your SPI in, take the loss, and buy the car you wanted. Truth sucks, huh?

Yeah but Waterboy your missing a very important point: to most of us, our Focus is not just another Focus. Our Focus is THE Focus. I'm doing the swap too, and rather than go and finance a new car (new USED I should say), I'm doing the work myself so that I have a tighter love of my car. And not only that, But I got my MTX for $300 shipped, and am getting a Zetec for less than $1500. Where can you get a Focus in GOOD shape for less than 5 grand? Which by the way my swap probably won't come close too...I have part connections...

I get your point, but you failed to see mine.

Your car cost new- 12k?

ZETEC-$1500
Misc parts- $3-400
Trans-$300

Reality: Worth 4-5k tops.

The thing I've come to realise is that... just be ****** happy with what you have sometimes. I would have had a zts but I got screwed because they sold the car I wanted. Than I needed a car so I just bought the most decent one they add. zts are hard to f ind in detroit for sale.
