Question Gas level indicator adjustment

On my spi sedan my fuel gauge reads less than full when the tank is full.
Can i simply remove the cover and move the indicator to full when the car is full?
What about the gass light? Is it relative to the needle of relative to the actually fuel level.?

thanks

Scott

dont know about question 1, but the gas light is relative to the fuel in the tank. mine comes on after i have used about 11 gallons, which in theory, would leave me with about 2 and a half gallons or so in the tank.

but i dont know if the needle and light run off the same sensor. so if one is off, they might both be off.

I had the same problem took it back to the dealer ship they replaced the pump. That was before the recall. Thats write there's a recall on all focus fuel pumps warranty is unlimited miles /10 years after you bought it.

what you could do...

yo dundadda,

if you are feeling brave, you could take out the the black trimming from the intrument cluster, ( there are 3 screws on the top) then un bolt the 4 screws that hold the intrument panel and open un the area to the speedomder and the other gauges. and take a fork, yes a fork and pop the needle off and place it where you feel it needs to be. oh yeah the car should be running so the gas gauge in "on".

i had to do this to my car when i installed glow gauges. fairly easy...

perhaps i shall heed Stitch's advice because i need to pull the needles off to switch to glow gauges in the near future anyway. i have a 2001 spi i hope its not my fuel pump.
