SOHC or DOHC?

I know I'll probably get a lot of or with my question. How do I determine which my car has? The eigth letter in the VIN is a P. If you could stop laughing long enough to post a reply, I would appreciate it.

Vince

Pop the hood, if the valvecover says Zetec its a DOHC if it says Split Port its SOHC.

Nobody's going to make fun of you around here for trying to learn more about your car.

Pretty sure the it says split port. The motor just went on it so I've got it on craigslist and have had a few replies already. Thanks for the quick replies.

Does it look like this:

Or this:

If it's the first, You have a SOHC SPI, second would be the DOCH Zetec

Well, You have(or had) an SPI/SOHC. It helps to know what it is, but it won't help Your pricetag when You sell. You said it was dead though, so it shouldn't matter. People commonly do Zetec swaps when Their SPI dies.

If the 8th digit is a P, then it is the SOHC motor. The DOHC is vin code 3.

Hello to all and thanks in advance for being here to help me out. My 2000 ford focus SE has the letter P as the 8th digit in the vin, so that means I have a 2.0L, which is a single overhead cam; so, does that mean I don't need to replace the timing belt until it breaks, because even if it breaks it won't do any damage to anything else under the hood,(and is that safe), to wait for the timing belt to simply break on its own? Holy cow I really like this focus i just bought. What a cool little car. Thx again
