Plug wires

How much real difference is there between plug wires like FocusSport offers and a performance set from say Pep Boys or AutoZone or something like that.

This may be a pretty basic question, and I did read the FS write up about plug wires, but I would like the opinons of some of you board members.

Thanks

Cory

I dont know anything about the wires you are talking about from local Auto shops. But the FS wires are supposed to be good.

I think if you need new wires, you might as well upgrade. I hear new wires will smooth out the idle a little, but probalby wont give you a noticable change to performance.

If the wires under your hood are good, i wouldnt bother, but if you need new wires, might as well upgrade.

Well, the car only has like 20k miles on it but it does idle rough at times. I wonder if the new chip will help any with that?

Also, relating to this, spark plugs. I read some posts about iridium plugs. Is this a brand? What are the prefered plugs in these forums? FS has motocraft platinum plugs, I assume they must be fairly good or they wouldn't even bother listing them.

My mind is a black hole trying to be filled.

Thanks a bunch for all of your help urn!!

NGK Iridiums, Motorcraft Platinums..Both are good. Stay away from the Bosch plattys, they burn up in our cars.

As for wires, go with the FS ones. You can't beat the price----AND they have a LIFETIME warranty. Can't beat that deal!

i was working on replying, but i got logged out :( had this nice long post (that said what jim said, only looked longer) and lost it all :(

anyway, i think that answers the question.

Jim, your running iridium now, right?

anyhow...
as for being a black whole of knowledge, i am too.... lol. except the topics i am getting into now are so far over my head it hurts... trying to get a grasp on turbos, and other such complicated messes. there is always something to learn, i guess.

I love my FS intake! It gives my engine a deep tone when accelerating, and as for gas mileage "it gets better miles to the gallon"! I love the performance gains from my intake.
