Unhappy camshaft help

i have limited knowledge about camshafts and i would like to know which style of camshaft would give me the greatest gains in power w/o having to rebuild the entire engine. i'd like one that is setup for street/strip use. who sells them and how much would they cost. also with a nem camshaft am i going to need new valves, spings, and lifters?

There are tons of em. Ford Racing Stage 2's are supposed to be a good setup. Yout should still get a new valvetrain though for insurance. do that puts you at $550 there. Plus you should get cam gears. THey are a must for actually getting the best gains from your cams. and those are about $160. Plus you may need new buckets $6 a piece. some may not need to be replaced. Dyno tune is $100. So you are looking at $810 about. However, you can get a lot of parts used. Like i got my cams for $200 and my gears for $120. About $150 in savings there.

Tons of places sell em and i recommend www.mcnewsautomotive.com They are good people to deal with. You dont need the new valvetrain but consider it insurance for your engine. Dont need new valves as far as i know. The head will have to be clearanced for the cams however.

Well i still have yet to put mine on. However, when you dyno them some people gain like 10-15 hp max....BUT in some places on the chart they gain as much as 25 horse power. They will give you alot more power throughout the RPM range which helps out a ton.

only if you get a chip. with a street/strip application you probably wouldn't want to take it too god awful high anyway.

You guys realize that he had an SPI and it's a totally differnt animal that the ZETEC, right?

The cam situation is a little different. www.escortfocus.com carries the cam, lifters, double valve springs and seals. To the tune of $575. The parts are from Crane Cams, a well respected cam manufacturer. The cam itself is a Crane regrind. Our rockers are what is limiting us from getting more power from the cam. Currently there are no rockers to replace ours but the research is being done on that on another board. If you're going through the trouble of installing a cam and gear, replace your timing belt if you have anything over 40k. Just a preventative measure as you're that far anyway. Degree your cam and crank too. A degree wheel is downloadable from www.escortfocus.com, as well as a how-to. Read the article, you'll be suprised.

If you can get a spare head (I will have one in a week), then a good port and polish will be your best bet after a cam and exhaust. "Air in, air out" should be your mantra for engine work.

www.blackdiamondracing.com for your cam gear, crank UDP, and TB. Cam gear is $100, TB is $275, and crank UDP is about $100.

SCT chip for the SPI is available from FocusSport.com and is about $275. With the EFP cams ability to rev well past 7k, the chip is a must. Get the EGR and second O2 delete, the rev limiter raised to 7500, speed limiter removed, and whatever else you see fit to have.

I'm available via PM's or e-mail. Questions will be entertained and answered as best I can.
