tick, tick, tick

My '03 SPI started ticking on me yesterday -coming from the valve cover. Checked oil - good there. Went away after a couple of times around the block. Put 100 miles on her today and no more noise.

Got 119K on her - just replaced the timing belt.

It could just be the valve train. It's typical for high milage CVH's to have a ticking sound. Most of the time it's nothen to worry about.
Or you could have a problem with a lifter, it's been knowen to come apart. You can remove the rockers and pull out the lifters and inspect, fairly easy. Also could be a oil problem. Could also be a valve seat coming loose.

Belive it or not on my car I who also hear the same ticking noise, found it to be the through out bearing for my clutch. Sounds odd but. Its what it is. When I push my clutch in the noise goes away. thats what got me on the case of the ticking noise. Tore it all appart and whaula it was the through out bearing

I don't want to be the one to post on an old thread, but the valve seat "coming" loose.... It's either in or it's out there really is no in between.. Think about it

You had to really search for this one it wasn't for your comment I would have never noticed it was old.

BTW correct me if I'm wrong. Focus have hydraulic lifters so sometimes when the engine oil is cold it takes a little bit longer to reach the top of the engine, till the engine warms up.

Hydraulic lifters

Yeah that's right that's why I let my car idle for a few minutes to build up oil pressure. It's not a matter of every spi is junk.. A search on the escort forum will show people that there is literally hundred with 200k+ miles..
