Talking SPI header club

EDIT: More Pictures added. (I know my engine is filthy I am hoping to get it cleaned soon.)

Well after about 8 months of research and 2 and a half months of parts lying around, I finally joined the elite SPI header club.

( I also used the opportunity to install my VF-engineering rear motor mount. What a total PITA that was, the SVT guys sure have it easy.)

It took me about 5 hours after work yesterday and 6 hours today to complete the work. I did all the work in my friend’s shop he’s got everything. I didn't have a camera with me, but I did snap a quick shot with my cell phone. I'll try and get some more pictures up with my real camera tomorrow if there’s an interest.

New Pictures:
Looks like the header isn't so shiny anymore :(

So anyway, I used an OBX stainless steel zetec 4-1 long tube header and modified the flange to fit the SPI. It bolted up beautifully to the engine. I was very happy, until….

it came time to mount the flex, that’s when things got bad. After wasting about an hour struggling with it I ended up having to cut it in half and trim about 4 inches off of it. I clamped the two pieces together temporally until I can take it to a muffler shop on Monday and get it welded together. After that it bolted up perfect on both ends.

As a side note my existing exhaust is a 2.5" stainless steel trubendz borla. So now I have a complete 2.5 exhaust system.

The project turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Once the flex is welded, stopping the exhaust leak, I think it's going to be totally worth all the effort. In just the short distance I drove it to get it home, it seems to have made a huge difference in power.

I also want to give props to Josh912 who gave me the inspiration to undertake this project by creating a nice write-up which can be found here.

Welcome to the club man. Yours looks nice and shiny.
I'll post some pics of mine tomorrow. I've also got a full 2.5" exhaust setup.

Is it possible to cut off the flanges from the stock and performance header and swap them?

I just got the car back from the muffler shop. They shortened the flex even more because it was putting a lot of pressure on the exhaust. It was stretching the hangers out and also causing it to rub against the car causing a lot of vibration and noise. It's quieted down a bunch and doesn’t sound that loud from inside the car but other people have told me it’s really loud from outside. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can make it even quieter I would appreciate it. I already have a resonator installed on my exhaust too. Being obnoxiously loud isn’t really my style. I do like the boost in power though. It's definitely what the SPI needed.
