Mine is an IB5.
Change out your trans oil with a really good one like Redline. It knocked out the noise in my Maserati and Mazda MTs.

My SPI motor still goes

I made it from 124k to 139k, driving the piss out of it (few 100+ MPH runs). Now I turned the keys over to a family man, should last even longer.

Just sold the 2002 focus I bought with 156k on it. Runs great. Was a quieter motor than whats in my 06 focus. Got a buddy that has 215k on his 02 focus and he has never touched it. Other than oil changes.

blew at 205K
.
fixed with bear head from clear-water, FL. valves, gaskets, rings from rock auto...transferred all the guts over to the new head..
had to use spare short block from parts car, as it put a hole in the liner in about 10 sec......
original block is at the machine shop getting #4 over bored and sleeved back to STD, cost will be about $200 for just that.

i need that S\B fixed to get another SPI going. it blew out at 180K or so....
that will make for 3 fixed SPI's
and a 4th S\B to sell or put in another focus.

Bought mine with 117,000 had to replace clutch after about a year and a half later(the mechanic said he didn't think it was the original clutch too).and a few months later I did the timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and motor mount at about 128,000. I'm now at about 138,000 and going good. I've had my fair share of brake light problems but I suppose that's is for a different thread.

Not in a Focus, but the Escorts I have.

The 98 Escort wagon had around 181K miles or so, never dropped the valve seat, but did replaced the cylinder head after the head gasket blew as a precaution against that, then the crankshaft key broke damaging the crankshaft.

The 93 Escort 4 door hatchback (not technically a SPI engine but same base CVH as the SPI) has just under 220K miles on it got it for free with about 96K miles after the timing belt broke and he gave me the car. Never had to do anything to the engine besides plus, wires, timing belts, a water pump, and a couple coilpacks.
