what do mean by wiring??? like the plug in the back? or the cable between the starter and the alternator?

It's meant to replace the 3-wire plug and harness that comes off the main harness on the firewall. drjkl found the right part, it just wasn't the part number I was looking for. This fixes most voltage issues like flickering gauges and lights, and the occassionally battery light. It certainly fixed mine.

Many vendors carry this part. Rock Auto has the Motorcraft part for approximately $21. It requires soldering and is not a particularly straightforward install. Be sure to confirm that you actually need this part by careful inspection of your existing connector.

thanks drjkel, I'll check to make sure.

The "flickering" has gotten progressively worse since I bought the car a year and a half ago. First thought I needed the grounding kit till my battery light started to come on then the car wouldn't start.
