Shaving the Antenna

Just did mine, was absolutely no problem.
Unscrew the antenna from it's mount (unscrews counter-clockwise).
I measured back from the tip 12" and marked it with a magic marker. Wrap once around with clear tape. Use the sharpest wire cutters or shears you can find - I used a pair of cutters I had bought to cut my water sprinkler pipe with. The antenna is fiberglass and will want to split into pieces as you cut so do use the sharpest thing you can find. Reomove the clear tape when you're done cutting.
Now take the piece with the rubber tip (not the one that will screw back onto the car) and clip it to the side of a pot filled with water (I clipped it with a wooden clothes pin) so it sits in the water not touching the bottom. Find you a pair of pliers and have them close by. Bring the water to a boil. Remove the antenna from the boiling water and slide the antenna through the smallest part of the pliers so that you slide the rubber tip off. Quickly, while it's still hot, pressing against the end wiggle it onto the piece you will be putting back onto the car. I could only get it so far on so I turned it all upside down and plunked it again & again on the kitchen counter until it was fully seated. Now all you have to do is go back to your car and screw the antenna back on and you're done. I haven't noticed any loss of radio signal but it sure looks a lot nicer bobbed short.

I think he means completely shaved. As in, no antenna period.

So, you aren't planning on ever using the stereo? I guess it would look clean though.

I plan to shorten my antenna as well, but not get rid of it. I mostly listen to mp3s but I still want to be able to get the radio every now and then.

I've never seen one because most people want the public radio... just in case. Afterall... how would you know if your driving on I-5 and we're attacked by Godzilla and revert to the EBC to find out what to do? Because that could happen... yes... it could happen...

What is the deal with like Honda antennas, they look like the XM or Sirus ones that are just a small rectangle, could you just splice one of those on or what?

(I had my antenna base color matched it looks great, I will eventually paint my DIY shorty to match as well)
