Windows & Locks are screwed up!

About a year ago the PASSENGER side window on my 2001 zx3 quit working. Intermitant at first then completely stopped. It was winter here in Minnesota, so it wasn't really a big deal. Then this spring my DRIVER side door lock stopped - won't work by remote or door switch, manually only. Just been dealing with it - checked all the fuses & acsesible wiring - nothing unusual, have thoughts to change window & lock motors, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Here's the crazy part. Today, for what ever reason, I hit the lock button & both doors lock, try the passenger window & it goes down! Try to put it up & nothing - crap. Hit the unlock button, doors unlock & window goes up!!?? So now I know its a wiring problem, any ideas where to start looking? Is there a relay or module that controls just these functions? Now for the fun part - anybody else with this problem out there?

My wife has a 2001 SE and the rear drivers side window would go down with out a problem, I could hear the window motor working, it would not go back up. I talked to the dealership that said it could be anything from a dusty contact on the controller, a relay to a burnt out motor. I did some trouble shooting myself and took apart the rear door panel ( an easy thing to do with a socket and allen key set ) It turned out to be a relay on the motor, and I had to buy a new motor and relay ( they come together) instead I reversed the wires so up would be down and it didnt work...the first time then after about 5 min it did for some reason and the window went up. The window is now up and the motor is unpluged so I dont have to worry about it again.


PS I just bought the Chilton Ford Focus repair manual and its laid out verry well with lots of troulbe shooting text.

rear door drivers side is down, wont go up
checked by dealer, not in warranty, have to order parts, could be a week, labour and parts $470 Cdn
All because my power button just goes whirr whirr and the window is still down.
