Yeah, I did the league race. I finished 7th out of 20. Sucks the way the kart rotation works. The fast karts always stay in the front so the fastest guys always get the fastest karts. Kart 4 was untouchable and Kart 7 was slightly slower then a big gap to all the others. #1 and #2 qualifiers got those 2 karts in all 5 feature races.

Apparently a new fleet of 6.5HP Stratos karts have been ordered and should be delivered early next year.

They were also talking about refurbishing some of the current ones and upgrading them wit 9HP motors for some kind of special event races.

Seems like they would put some equipment on them, and test acceleration/speed, and then even them out. They are all goverened, seems like they could adjust that. Even just pick one car as the benchmark, and do side by side runs and make it even.

They had a "test driver" drive all of them earlier in the day and they picked the fastest 10. The problem is that there were atleast 2 outliers that were very fast. Maybe 1 that was super slow. Then 2 of the mid pack cars died during qualifying so they brought out 2 more which were of course slower yet.

Hence why electric karts would be ideal. especially 20hp electric karts because you could limit them down to ~10 ish hp for general use and could have them calibrated to be dead nuts even.

+ more torque would make them more fun. Pull harder out of corners, and you couldn't just wood the thing as often.

This.

Also I was thinking its possible to build a motor controller that would let you set a fixed acceleration rate and top speed... or at least one that would let you limit the current but correct for the differences between carts. Wouldn't be too hard. Just some code, wheel speed sensor, big mosfets, microcontroller.

I like this idea as well and had been thinking about it in my limited electrical knowledge but it seems as though that would make for the funnest karting experience.

Karts capable of generating up to 20 hp limited down to ~10hp with a 140lb person on there with max acceleration rate of whatever that gives you. then program the karts to give up to that amount of acceleration but never any more regardless of load (within limits)

that would give you the ability to have fat guys race with skinny guys and everyone's kart would be equally powerful.

I think we're on to something.

it should take us like what.........a combined 5 hours ea to design a kart?

That was the one thing I didn't like about going to K2K. Seems there's always 2 karts that are much faster than the others. I know I'm not that great at it but, c'mon.
