4750 fools! living large!!! (everyone knows what happens when the shifter goes into "L")

oh right...

miata goes to 7200. a quarter of the fun of it is doing first/second gear pulls. it feels fast.

the other 3/4ths is ripping through round abouts and around turns :)

The grape, literally the 2 lowest HP cars I've ever raced have been my favorite. everything else is too heavy/understeery/lame even if they do have more power.

the BMW is close with the R comp grip but its down on power and has to have the perfect line to make it behave like a proper RWD car.
Sean's neon behaves more like a RWD car than most RWD cars I've driven.

I'm assuming you would be running a Street tire also?

If you run detroit council events, I'd run TFSP

STF for SCCA events but...

Generally your competition wouldn't care enough to protest though.

Tire brand is up in the air. Wait until jan or feb to see what new tires come out and see what the other fast guys are going with. Generally all tires marketed for autocross are good. When you get fast enough that the difference of .5 seconds is the difference between a National Champion jacket and 2nd, that when you should look into it a bit deeper.
Thats right I forgot council doesn't run ST classes! the HFC is pretty much in exactly the same spot as the OEM Cat so Word should be set there.

I agree about waiting until the new fleet of tires comes out this year. although since word has never done it before and driver will make more of a difference at local stuff than the rubber will his best bet is likely going to be to get a set of "last years" tires when Tirerack/discount etc mark them down on clearance to make room for all the new fast tires.

amirite klod?
The grape far and away. although it probably weighs even more in favor for the grape since I got to drive it at nationals and that was also the funnest auto-x I've ever been too.

also I could see the SVTF needing 3rd gear on a national level type track especially if running slightly shorter than stock size tires. locally I doubt he'll have an issue but I know I hit 2nd gear rev limiter (65mph) at nationals multiple times and Sean spent half the track on the rev limiter.

Sorry, I thought read someplace that top speed in second was 53mph.

Even in the Miata? I've used 3rd on big fast SCCA style courses like Oscoda. That was in a 92 though.

I'm so new.... I haven't even had my car above 3500rpm in any gear... lol
sean was .005 seconds out of trophies IIRC? hitting the throttle a billionth of a second sooner, taking a poo before the race etc. would've made the difference.

that was a quiet ride home for the first few hours

Also Aku hasn't done any huge parking lot stuff, barring a nationals style course I'm thinking 1-2 is sufficient for 95% of the courses in this area.

I want my e30 project to have a red interior so I can paint the exterior green and call it the watermelon.

Werd... Nationals is a whole different animal. I was happy to be in the top half my first time out. Second year I screwed myself out of 3rd and ended up in 6th. Still a trophy in ESP though but left with less enthusiasim even with the hardware.

Indeed!
I hope next year to move up a lot! day 1 this year included runs 4-6 that I had ever done in the grape (which is unlike anything I'd raced up to that point)

by day 2 of nationals I was 2 seconds closer to the "fast guys" than I was the day before.

hopefully next season taking a car I've driven non stop for 2 years will help me have a better shot at national hardware.
