False.

I'm thankful to have been blessed with some small amount of natural talent. I know I could be way faster if I didn't have such terrible car ADD.

I dont think I've raced the same car more than 2 years...

contrast that too guys who have been running the same car 5-7 years in a row?!?

I wish I knew any 1 car that well, I'd be way g faster.

Pretty sure the G is the first car I've had where I auto-x'd for a full season. and still actually havent' due to the tires/clutch issues I'm having now.

The focus on a road course though is a different story. Had that shit down

Companies with access to flow benchs, sophisticated modeling softwares and other engineering blingy stuff can't out-design a intake that has been designed by COSWORTH.......you know.....one of the best aftermarket part companies in the world?

all I'm trying to say is there are far better ways to get your hands dirty working on the car that will still make it better. I'm not knocking you at all. CAI's are fun projects. I've modeled up several different hair brained ideas for a carbon fiber intake for my car.

but what it really comes down to is when I only have 3-4 hours to work on the car I'd rather spend those 3-4 hours doing a project that I KNOW 100% will improve my track times, rather than a project that may or may not (and has been proven many times not to) give me faster lap times.

This really is an interesting topic and I'm interested in hearing other opinions/point of views because that helps me have a better process for building my car!
Well - if all you read was the first 3 lines of my reply, then it's no wonder I'm over here still trying to explain.
You may also be underestimating my knowledge on the subject of engines.
You're also almost definitely not up to speed with everything that's currently wrong with my car.
Putting that aside for the moment:

Sure, Cosworth may have some fancy toys, but here's the short version.
sealed airbox + front facing snorkel = intake psi (however small). the stock SVT airbox is in itself IS a sort of CAI, but if a short ram supports a higher volume of airflow over the stock filter and airbox (can't say I know this as being fact), then it's entirely possible to get better performance from it as long you can make use of outside air and pressurize the box using the car's speed, be it hood scoop, or even a modification of the stock air box itself, if at all possible (the plastic used seems to be thermally resistant to a point).

Sure, on an otherwise stock SVTf the returns from such a project are negligible. If instead you put cams, valves, a port job and put a 2.5+" exhaust on the car, it might get more noticeable power, but then you might also hear a noticeable hissing coming from behind your grill because the intake is now your bottleneck.

It's all a matter of looking at the big picture, knowing what you will and won't be doing to the car, and planning for it accordingly.

I don't see upgrades and mods in terms of "what gives me the best gains right now?". I see them as "what am I going to end up with?".

If all I cared about was 'right now' then I'd just slap a cookie cutter suspension, exhaust, turbo, and whatever else on it and call it good for 3 weeks until it blew up, hehe.

I'm more methodical than that. when I start a project, I tend to start it from the beginning. where does engine performance start? At the air intake. where does it end? at the tail pipe. And then there's accounting for everything in-between.

Also, I unfortunately don't have any other cars right now, nor do I have a ready-to-go workspace or people to help knock out larger jobs in a single afternoon (brother is mostly useless when it comes to any vehicle that was generally made after he was born ['82]). So in the meantime I'm looking at projects I CAN do by myself in the time I have without pulling the car too far apart that I cant slap it back together and drive it to work, then resume the project the next evening, or weekend.

This is why I've been considering one of Tom's motors. I could save a LOT of time trying to rebuild the whole thing over the course of however many Saturday afternoons if I just bought one with all the internal work (the work I'm not currently set up to do) done already, and not have to worry about the downtime. In addition, I can take the original motor that I was previously unable to rebuild due to time and space constraints, and start working on rebuilding that one as well to use either as a spare/backup or to sell in order to offset some of the cost of the new one.

So if that doesn't explain my end well enough for you, then oh well - I can stop ranting, stop being logical, and start relying on irrational responses instead; in which case, "rabble rabble rabble, your argument is invalid because I have a spork, am not afraid to use it, and this guy has a shark in his roof, so nyah." lol
