exactly. definitely a market for it.

not with the cheap-os on xceed but you know, the bimmer and G guys and stuff.

I'd be all over that. I'd love to be able to use the bays while no one was renting them out....

I'm even thinking like college guys.........maybe they didnt have a dad that was into cars or their buddies aren't into cars but they're willing to learn/do their own work to have extra beer money?

could even do free/cheap classes on saturday mornings like how to change oil, how to do plugs/wires/gap the plugs, how change pads/rotors. etc.

There are already used Golf R's for sale? They haven't even been out a full year... who the hell would want to sell one already?

Golf R has AWD goodness...

But then they won't keep coming back to pay us to do it... then again they could still come back to use the lift to do do their own work.

I'd be interested in potentially trying to be a partner on it, would have to see.

classes are good. brad thinks it'll lower business but i think it'll increase it.

we teach someone to do oil/plug/pads and rotors... then he starts gaining some confidence.... next thing you know he's dropping transmissions and swapping axles...

think back to how you started out on cars... you didn't start out doing engine swaps... you start out learning to do silly shit, but if that proves to be fun the opportunities are endless... and we have the tools and the equipment.

also full copy of alldata... should be had.

Agreed!

a) who'd sell a golf R?
b) as much as I'm glad the focus actually has a real performance option now I'd take a golf R in a heartbeat because AWD and because the aftermarket support is massive

Bingo.

teach someone how to do that and they become more confident to tackle other projects.

once you realize you can do brakes/oil changes you begin to realize how much car work you can do your self.....plus you have the insurance/safety net of getting halfway into a project and being like......well I can't do this...but who cares? its already at a shop and half way apart/done so now you either pay the mechanic to help/teach/walk you through it while you finish it yourself or you just pay them to finish it and carry on.

also alldata is a must

will keep you in the loop. If its as brilliant as I initially think it's going to be we'd have a GR and a Detroit Shop in no time.

Ya I changed my mind halfway through my post.. hence the 'then again they can just do their work at the shop' comment. It made sense just took a second..

Good stuff. I'd give some $$, and probably foot a % of bills until its profitable, for a chance to use the shop when it's closed or not busy.

Edit* Yep, found a used Golf R, at a VW dealer, with 5k miles on it, for $29,900.

from a review of firstgeargarage

they did all the lifting and lowering of the car, that is one of the rules, I had to show proof of insurance and I did have to sign a waiver form.
