Who wants to start a business with me?

with the harsh winters we get and how long/cold/wet our springs/falls are this seems like it'd be a great business idea!

auto-x are 4-6 minutes of driving time and lots of guys trailer cars in......whats better than max torque at 0rpms on an auto-x track?

plus thats just his budget option to prove it out and its a bit of an older post....EV is becoming more realistic for racing use IMO just like that pikes peak e30 that was EV I posted a few days ago.

its much more race friendly than DD friendly thats for sure. if you're already trailering the car then it doesnt matter if its only lasting 15-20 minutes because thats all the longer you need it anyways.

15-20minutes of battery life = $70k in batteries... Yeah an auto-x is only a few minutes long, but how many runs are you going to get? What about pre-runs? Then you have to charge it for hours before you can run another lap? Just saying it's not functional right now.

That EV pike peak car probably has hundreds of thousands into it.

his last post saying that was back in 09........you know before the android even become popular?

battery tech has changed a lot in the last 3 years.

its still terribly pricey but its getting more feasible every day

i can see the advantage in certain areas, but the power density of gasoline (especially when coupled with that hayabusa based V8) is a thing to behold.

for me and my project idea the cost-benefit just doesn't work for EV.

i guess if all you want to do is auto-x that's fine, most track day sessions will be longer than your race pace range though.

Wonder what it’d cost to start something like that…..they don’t seem to have a terribly complex tool set, just basics to cover brakes/oil changes and simple stuff, not tearing a motor apart.

A good used hoist would be about $1500 x 2
The air setup would be another $1500
A couple craftsman complete tool sets at 300hundo each would be about $1000
Air Tools would be about another $1000-2000
A lawyer to write a “I’m not responsible for you being a jackass” would cost probably $10-15k
A tire changer would run $700
A balancer would be $2500

From there you’d mostly just need monthly lease/insurance/utilities which I have no idea what those would run…..lets say $8k a month.

Assume the shop is open from 8-8pm mon-fri and 10-10 Sat-Sun 2 stalls making $35 an hr 65% of the time and then the additional $50 an hour to have an ASE mech. Help out for 20% of that time and the other 35% of the time the stores open its just idle with nobody using the facility.

You’d be pulling in $15-16k a month…………seems profitable easily…

me clayton and sneeze were talking about doing this but starting off slower and doing what we have tools for now and working our way up.

much slower but also lower risk.

but i'm seriously in, and willing to get ASE certs.
