Dont forget testing supplies to make sure its premium. Its a seasonal burn due to it gelling in cold weather. Unless you purge your fuel system with diesel every time you park. Along with a heated fuel cell for the bio diesel.

well right, testing supplies are either a titration test (relatively cheap) or a pH meter (one time buy)

there's anti-gelling additives that can be used with biodiesel, lowering the gel point by 30 degrees F.

they mix in a 1:750 ratio. 5 gallons is ~$280 and treats 3750 gallons... which as an extra..... $0.074/gallon.

as far as gel temps, the site i'm referencing has this to say:

Quote:
Depending on the oils used, biodiesel made from fresh, unused oil has a lower pour-point (or CFPP -- Cold-Filter Plugging Point) than biodiesel made from used cooking oil (UCO, WVO). But, again depending on the oil, WVO biodiesel should be okay to a few degrees below freezing. Ours is fine to about -5 deg C (23 deg F). (We think it helps a lot to process it properly and make high-quality fuel -- see Biodiesel test results.
if i treat it with anti-gel, or buy diesel and mix it in, i can get a blend that will start in the winter without much issue. sure maybe i have to run B70 in the winter, but i can run full B100 in the summer.

more info on winterizing...

Quote:
Winterized biodiesel

Some people find their WVO biodiesel starts to gel at around 4-5 deg C (40 deg F). This is because any saturated fats/oils in the WVO will crystallise (solidify) at higher temperatures than unsaturated fats and oils, and separate out, clogging the filter. That includes tallow, lard, palm oil, etc.

To make WVO biodiesel for winter, heat the oil first, then cool it to near freezing point; the saturated fats will crystallise out and sink to the bottom. Use the clear oil off the top to make winter biodiesel, keep the stuff at the bottom for summer. But even this "winterized" biodiesel still won't go much below -5 deg C (23 deg F) without gelling.

Looks like work is interested in putting one of their sensors on my car to see how it (the sensor) responds to biodiesel made from waste veggie oil... going to see how much extra $$$ i can swing with that/see if they'll provide me with the fuel itself.
