Key FOB Programming

Hey there Fanatics
I am a new Focus owner and new to this forum so forgive me if I am asking a question which has been dealt with 1000 times already.
The the car I purchased was used and unfortunately did not come with the FOBs. There are plenty of cheap ones avalable locally (Ontario Canada) but I do not know the sequence to program the car to accept them. I have seen numerous posts on reprogramming for performance upgrades ect. but none relating to the more mundane tasks. Can you help?

Cheers
Bill

Did the car originally come with remote access?

I do not know. Based on the equipment and model ('01 SE Wagon,Ztech, ect.) I assume that it came equipped.

Well, someone on another board said that the procedure is in the manual.

Quote:
1. Close all doors and fasten seat belt.
2. Turn ignition lock from OFF to ON/RUN at least 4 times in 6 seconds.
3. Switch off the ignition. There should be a chime...this indicates it's in "learning mode". You have 10 seconds to do the following:
4. Press & hold one of the buttons of the remote until a chime sounds. This chime says that the code has been received by the remote successfully. Repeat with the other transmitters.
5. If no new remotes are programmed after 10 seconds, or if 4 (max # of remotes) have been programmed, you're done!
6. Test.
As if it will work or not, I don't know. Just because you have power locks doesn't mean you have remote entry.

Thanks EGZ. I pick the car up tomorrow and look forward to giving the FOB a try. Thanks to all who responded.

When you enter the program sequence for the key fobs, it sets a new code, so you have to reprogram them ALL at the SAME time. Just programming one will kick the other two out of the system.
