As for NASCAR not being racing. I agree, but disagree. What dosent make it racing is the Political bull shit that happens to get one guy to win instead of another. But, it does take driver skill. I know all they do is go in circles. AGREED, but the cars do not handle well. To go fast you must hang on with all you have to not spin out. I raced Go-Karts on a dirt track. While it looks easy it is not. When the Kart was really good, yeah it was cake, but when its was not it was a bit difficult.
There are only a few good forms a racing left.
Rally (almost all off road racing in general.)
NASA (ppl like us in real cars)
Auto X is but isnt. Takes great skill but you dont actually have to pass someone.
Grand Am cup, and things like it. Where they use REAL cars but build them to race.
As for Formula 1. That is a JOKE. Yeah there fast, but look at why? There stuck to the track. If the car handles bad, they adjust it from the pits. IRL, they all run wide open unless there scared. CART same as F1. Nascar to much money and dumb bull shit.
All racing at pro levels is political, regardless.
NASCAR - Going in circles, only left turns in 36 of 38 races. W00t. Skill....no.
Rally/Auto X - Put into same catergory as generally race against time, not opponent. As stated, takes great skills to actually DRIVE and MANIPULATE the car to your whims.
NASA - Don't know enough about it yet, but looks like decent racing at the amatuer level. Probably has "pro" levels, but not enough exposure.
Grand Am Cup - Sounds similar to NASA, but also features RACE cars.
Formula 1/Formula 3000/CART - Highest level of racing skills in my opinion. Doubtful other racers have to have the sheer physical strength to drive at those speeds, with that focus, and against as many G's (g-force) as they do for as long as they do.

Drag racing is a little to no skill way to race. Who's car is faster GENERALLY will determine the outcome. Two racers of equal skills is RARELY apparent. F-1/CART and I believe NASCAR (though not racing to me) all have standard specs at which the cars MUST conform. There is little to no way to make the CAR faster by design at those levels. Things like tire useage, fuel strategy and lines make up good racing.

Yeah, my brother in laws use the DVR (tiVo equivalent) and tape the races that are like 3am and will watch them on the weekends. Sad, especially since the rest of the world considers NASCAR a joke. I can see why since it's not comparable to anything remoting requiring skill. I laughed when I saw the interviews of Juan Pablo Montoya going to NASCAR and the responses that the F-1 reporters got from other F-1 drivers. It was hilarious.

"Rubbin' is racin'" - Hahahaha sure it is.

formula 3000 doesnt exist anymore. it is now known as gp2.

there are many ways to make an f1 car faster by design. every team works continuosly throughout the entire year to improve the aerodynamics, squeeze out extra revs from the engines, and improve their chassis desings. each of these things helps to make the cars faster. f1 cars get faster every single year unless the FIA imposes some new regulation to slow the cars down, but even then it doesnt take long for the cars to get back to the same level. as for nascar and champ car, they are pretty much spec series.

Thought Formula 3000 merged with Formula 3? I know Renault kind of got screwed since FIA said the dampers (spelling) that their car was DESIGNED around are no longer eligible to be used. Apparently they were the only ones who designed it that way. Too bad.

yeah once the FIA outlawed renault's mass dampers, their season kinda went down the tubes. they were absolutely dominant at the beginning of the season, and i guess that made the FIA decide that they needed to do something to ruin their chances and hand the constructor's title to ferrari.

Politics ftw.

Personally I didn't care of Renault was to win again or not, but it was refreshing that someone other than Ferrari was winning. Oh well, back to the way it was....
