2008 North American Focus

Igor,

Thank you for posting that spy shot, and making the comparison to the current model. This is the most compelling evidence of a truly revised model for 2008. There had been no spy shots of a camo'd Focus rear and roofline until your posting.

I hope they add a diesel, hybrid, and E85/mutlifuel capability as well as side curtain air bags.

Dayna,

none of the things you listed are likely ..

Ford is Working on several car diesels, but while we do not know details about them, it is quite likely they are not quite ready.
Also Ford will likely wait with a hybrd model for the all new 2010 model, and has not E85 models running their more modern non V8 engines ..

So it will likely only be a gasser, but quite possibly getting 30/40 mpg.

Also the side curtains usually need to be engineered into the platform ... I am not sure how diffcult/invasive of a change that would be, but I am not aware of a model, where a side curtain option would be added in mid cycle refresh - I might be wrong, but NO would be my guess.

However - I just really want people to realize that this will not be a nosejob, like the media is trying to convince us - it will indeed be a full reskin.

And we all know that the C170 platform is fully capable of going forward, being still superior to many more modern offerings like spectra or Cobalt or Corolla - it just needs a good car riding on it.

Just got this email back from my dealer:

Quote:
I've asked my Master techs to research this information through our Ford's technical hotline. They were not able to find any information or instructions available to them on this issue. However that is not unusual. The media always gets a hold on issues similar to this one before the dealerships do. All I can recommend is that you check back with us in few weeks. We think it may still be pending EPA approval.
Can anyone dig up anything official from Ford?

2008 North American Focus

Igor,

Could you possibly elaborate or explain a bit more about what you related here:

" I know you are all excited about the addition of the Coupe, but I have reliable information it will be at the expense of most other bodystyles - the hatches and the wagon. Whilte there is some inclarity, with all likelihood some of the three will be no more for the 2 years of this new Focus (saves Ford a lot of $$$ not to have to develop 5 different bodystyles, but simply focus on just 2 or 3; especially since this model will have a very short run)"

Do you mean to say that the hatches and wagon will not share in the 2008 restyle or that they will not be offered during MY 2008 and 2009? The spy shot mules I have seen are all the ZX4 4 door sedan. According to Ford the 3 door sells at 14% of the mix, the sedan is 68%, the 5 door is 9% and the wagon is 9%.

It would be excellent for the next Focus to be able to get 40mpg highway. My current 2005 Focus ST gets up to 32mpg highway. This 2005 model needs a six speed transmission or the 3.41 axle ratio instead of the 3.82. Do you have any hints or theories about any changes that might happen with the ST? Thanks for your insight!

Didn't they say the fusion grille was gonna be on the 07s? Personally I think Feilds may be putting on his poker face for this one. Mexico is getting the C2 platform, and if Ford can bring it for the 08/09 US/Canada market, it could be a big hit to the Rabbit, Civic, and other cars in the range. It just doesnt add up that it is too costly to have the C2 in America but bring it to Mexico.

I don't think the new "corporate" Fusion-style grille is going to look good on the Focus, but I will reserve judgement for when we actually see the production 2008 model.

On the same subject, no one seems to have mentioned that this news means they are dragging this same basic Focus that debuted here for 2000 on through 2009/2010! It also sounds like they are going to "Escort" the Focus - reduced number of models available and a reskin to make it look fresh (a la the 97+ Escort), even though underneath it'll be the same old car it was before.

drove my friend's '07 sedan immediately after driving my 06 hatch the other night. even with four people in the car and the a/c on, it felt considerably torquier than my 06- and one of the dudes in the car is about 300 pounds.

also, there are no dealers in columbus, OH that knew anything about reflashing an 06 ECU to an 07 program, but as soon as it's possible, i am signing up! no exaggeration, it felt like a completely different car than mine.

and the difference in mileage on both vehicles was less than 7000 miles, so it isn't like mine is old and beat or anything. both vehicles have less than 10,000 miles on them.
