insurance? i don't think so. don't even mention it. just get the necessary "Who, what when where" and your $25, and go race. i wouldn't mention it to your agent, EVER. Regardless of people's experiences. Because what they don't know, won't hurt them. And just because a few people's agents might've been cool with it, NOBODY got a discount after admitting they race their car.

lol, you don't know me. If there is a chance for me to do something stupid and end up being expensive, it'll happen. I thought there was an insurance you can buy at the Auto X? Maybe I'm wrong. Just don't want to jack up a car I don't own yet.

^^^ You're more likely to damage your car on the way to the autocross than at the actual event. The entire point is that it's almost impossible to damage your car. If you get so far off line so fast that you might actually hit something solid, then it's a wonder that you could even earn your liscence or make it to the event without crashing. The fact that you use a car daily and are still alive means that you are fully qualified and competent to go autocross.
The worst thing that will happen to your car is that it will hit a soft plastic cone.

Big Jordan I'm sure that some of these events are reasonable close to you.

Not to mention probably 40-50 other marque club events locally.

Nah, only thing I worry about now, which will be remedied soon hopefully, is a chance at roll-over. The ST sits up like a damn school bus with the high springs. Will be getting them lowered soon so should be better. I mean, I can take a decent corner in it at 35-50 mph but feel more of a top heavy roll than my eclipse did. Like I said, springs should help that some.

i'dlike to try autox but i'd probably end up going everywhere and hitting everything, because i'm poor and need new back tires(lol...they have like 10% tread left) and i have an automatic...i'm guessing it wont work as good as mtx

You simply do not have enough grip to roll your focus on street tires. Youd have to hit a curb going sideways or have slicks to even begin to start to sort of worry about roll-over.

nomoreavril - Just go do it anyway. You'll have a blast and who cares if you're slower than you would be with an MTX.

Congrats on doing so well at your first event!

Even here (Anchorage, AK) we have 13 days of autocrossing this year.

As far as skill vs. a fast car, I've been seriously spanked by a mostly stock ZX-3 a lightly modified ZX-2 every event, and I'm in an SVTF. It also happens that these guys are in the top 1/3 of the field, beating many, many "fast" cars.

Get off the fence and go autocross. End of discussion.

yeah. . .ALL. . just go race.

You think a Z06 owner is thinking, "well, my car's a freakind sled/tank, so i'm not going to autoX it, because i'll be sliding all over the place." No. Not at all. There were a number of Z06s that compete here in town, and the focusSVT OUTHANDLES them. there's no reason NOT to go race, other than your own ego. once you get past that, and realize that you're NOT going to be the best/most famous person in the entire world for it, you'll go out and have a great time.

new tires are a must though. at least some race tires. not NECESSARY for racing, but one autoX event is roughly 500 miles regular street driving, so, for your SAFETY, get some tires. then go race.
