Update on Headers...

wake me up when jeffescort arrives... ill do some more reasearch at work tom.

I need a fellow SPIer in my area. theres a junkyard minutes away that has rows and rows of escorts I just can't find time to make it there since i work durring all their hours of operation. all the GT's I saw were gutted not a single wire left under the hood. but there tons and tons of SEFI and Split Port 2000 engines there that I could rip the exhuast manifold off and test on my car.

I even sent him a PM... I just started a new thread on the ford escort owners association forum. We just need to figure out which engine have the same port shape, then from there we can figure out which models they were in by ourselves and then we can take a look at that matching engine(s) stock and aftermarket manifolds/headers

keep in mind the 98 escort has th same engine a ours (exact) from what I found out, I believe the numbers are on escortfocus.com >> hope we can come to some sort of conclusion from all of this, I don't think my heart could take another let-dow on the headers : (

went to auto parts yard today ... all the escorts were other engines or gutted of an engine ...

I did however find a BUNCH of 1.9L SPI engines, so if I understood jeff correctly:

"Actully all CVH share the same exshaust ports and bolt pattern, that the one thing that was never changed in the CVH. Only thing is the UK 1.6 head has round ports instead of "D" shaped ports like the US head." - jeff

I can go back on my next day off and grab an axhaust manifold, and try to bolt-on my Focus SPI ... so exciting!

I'm so exhausted (really I didn't think of the implications of that until RIGHT now) from all this header talk... I just wish we could figure something concrete out and get moving along with things...

Playa, here's what you gatta do.

-Find an escort with a better designed manifold or header than ours
-Get the manifold+whatever comes next (probly the cat)
-Bolt up the manifold by itself
-Cut off the very top of the escort cat probly 2 inches of pipe plus the flange
-Cut off the top of our cat, weld on the escort flange
-Do a lil dance
-Make a lil love
-Get down tonight

It still works in my head, but only if you plan on replacing/rearranging your entire exhaust system.

The Escort 2.0 SPI 97-04 Exshuast manifold is exsactly the same as the Focus SPI mani.

The 91-96 1.8 GT is a Mazda motor, not compatible in any way shape or form.
But all single cam engines used in the Escorts share the same ex-mani bolt pattern.
The only OEM manifold that would be a improvent would come from the 86-90 Escort GT, it had the 1.9 HO motor. Or the rare 1.6 84-85.5 Turbo manfold would work to.
