back to the strip in upstate ny

well i finally got back to the track after about a month of maintenance and repairs and such. got in 4 runs tonight at lebanon valley dragway here in upstate ny (1/2 way between albany and pittsfield, mass). weather was beautiful.. about 75* when racing began at 6 and fell progressively throughout the night to around 60ish when i left at 10pm. my previous best time was set way back in june of 04 at a 15.695 @ 88.90 (i think something was screwy with the mph that day though) well my VERY FIRST RUN OF THE NIGHT tonight i got lined up with a 96-98ish subaru 2.5rs wagon with an intake, exhaust, suspension, few other goodies...light drops and i cut a .081 reaction (.000 being PERFECT) to his .489 . now.. you'd figure with his AWD he'd rip me out of the hole...well he got a decent launch at 2.268 sixty foot...now everyone.. my previous best sixty ever was a 2.314... it turns out i cut a 2.276 on this run.. so not only did i smoke him on reaction.. i got out of the hole great too...on to the 1/8th...he gets there in 9.997 @ 69.47.. im still ahead due to reaction but at a "slower" 10.035 @ 70.93...finally he finishes out the 1/4 in 15.656 @ 85.88... i watched him cross in my sideview mirror as i crossed FIRST at 15.644 @ 86.25! first run of the night and i bested my best time ever ! now mind u i get the slip and im flipping out... couldnt believe it...anyways... on to run #2...against the SAME GUY......we line up..same lanes as before.. lights drop and he goes red out of the hole trying to get the jump on me by more than a tenth.. i cut another great reaction at .097. heres where it gets fun.. his sixty foot comes out to be 2.297...i cut another sweet launch and net a 2.281 (yes i beat AWD out of the hole)now he's nearly 2 tenths ahead of me off the line due to him red lighting... BUT..he gets to the 1/8th at 10.100 @ 68.71.. now im trying my damndest to catch him, i turn a 9.969 @ 71.35 at the 660' mark. BY FAR my best 1/8th ever... headed down the back half im pulling through 3rd gear trying to edge my way around him and just past the 1000' line i think i started to edge past him. he finished the 1/4 in 15.814 @ 85.40 to my 15.567 @ 86.51...(i went around him by .032)... this is the 2ND RUN OF THE NIGHT! and i bested my time AGAIN!
my 3rd run was against a 2006 2.3 ST. light drops and i cut my worst reaction of the night at .199 but still get out on him to his .396. he nets a 2.454 sixty to my 2.299. at the 1/8th he gets a 10.408 @ 68.91 to my 10.082 @ 70.61.. at this point he starts to fade (appearing to miss a shift) as i motor through the 1/4. he finishes out the 1/4 in 16.707 @ 69.13 to my 15.699 @ 87.11.. (hope it was ok)...i stayed and got one final run in against my friend gerry in his 1991 sentra se-r...this car is NO SLOUCH! he ran the car in california before he moved back east and netted a 12.97 @ 113 on 13psi of boost (yes its an sr20det)... today he was only pushing 8 psi but battling everything that could possibly go wrong.. slipping clutch, blowing off charge pipes, spinning, bogging, missing shifts...etc.. the list goes on and on. anyways, we line up, lights drop and i IMMEDIATELY jump on him with my reaction of .092 to his .511 (more than 4 tenths) then spin slightly to my worst 60' of the day at 2.320 compared to his MASSIVE wheel spin 2.616....we get to the 1/8th and he crosses at 10.277 @ 69.58 (spinning all 1st, majority of 2nd, missing 3rd) to my 10.127 @ 70.44.. we run to the 1320' mark i cross first and win with 15.747 @ 86.04 to his quicker, but losing 15.629 @ 93.42 (won it on the reaction/launch)... won every single race i ran tonight which was a alltime first and got personal bests in every category except mph...twas a good night to own a focus...as a recap heres all the runs laid out in format:

Not bad at all. I love those track days where it just keeps getting better. I was pissed the last time I went to the track..it was too damn slippery (due fell as we were running) and I didn't get any faster despite the cooler temps.

thanks... the car was running great last night and i was getting alot of props from several different guys there wondering how a focus was goin 15.5.... there was a 95 5.0 mustang with a couple bolt ons , a tune and drag radials that was only pulling a 15.33...so i was VERY pleased.

That 5.0s tranny or rearend must be shot then......the 83 5.0 i used to drive did 15.1 on street tires, 200+k miles on the tranny, 70k miles on the rear end, dual exhaust and a mild cam we installed when i was rebuilt. That was in august too when my dads bullitt did the same time, it was extremely humid that night aswell.

Those are some good times your car! Wish I could spend some money on some headers and a tune right now....

mustang was automatic but he still should have gone faster than a 15.3. thanks for the compliments though.. im def happy with the numbers thus far.

nice job bro! very sweet. mph seems kinda low, you must have left it in 3rd or shifted late into 4th. None the less, I have not broke 9s in the 1/8th yet, but soon. With this "new" mod I have done to the exhaust, it should not be hard to do

i take all my gears to about 6200.... she just isnt making power on the back half of the 1/4..cams should help me out there.. i hope

i still haven't taken my foci to the drag strip..nor will i....after owning a Talon TSI AWD that would run 13.3-13.5 all night on street tires ;)...takin a car that might run 15.1-15.5 just isn't the same....lol....but congrats on the fun night and your hittin a new personal best!

i know what u mean... i was able to take a friends old tsi talon down the strip ONCE... cut a 1.8 sixty foot (2 steps are teh secks) and finished out the 1/4 at 13.001 @ 105.82.. its def moving compared to the focus but... its always good to play around...
