“How To”-Getrag Shift Linkage-Counterweight Removal

I took a 1000 mile trip over the last few days and I am not sure if I like the feel or not yet... it is pretty sloppy.

I went down the drag strip last night, and I loved it...just smacked it into gear, and it went.....felt solid...kinda popped into third, but nothing bad....I didn't miss any gears.....I LOVE IT .

WORST MOD EVER! The notchiness is beyond annoying, making it much harder to find the next gear. It makes the car feel like an unrefined piece of crap. If thats what your looking for more power to you, im heading back out to the garage to slap that weight back on.

^ the first negitive so far... correct? it does feel lighter quite a bit and a little sloppy, maybe your linkage is a little bit too loose to be causing that? i've never had any problems finding gears with or without the weight. it's good to hear the other side and different opions though but just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's the worst mod ever. it's worked for the other 60+ others that reponded to this little mod positively.

i've yet to shift and have the linkage pop off the tranny thus far. i think the extra weight slowed the shifter down as i was shifting faster then it could shift and pushes the linkage too hard and pops off. it only happens when going 1-2 and 3-4.

If you take it off, and only try it once, yeah, it will seem shitty......but if you actually drive around with it, you will find it provides a lot more feedback on where the gears are, and what the linkages are doing....I like that

its mega notchy, but it really is lighter, and once theyre past the gate the gears just pop into place. not very refined...but i really dont care

I HAVE not been able to find 3rd twice....but that has happened before with the weight....so I'm not really worried, just happens sometimes....I'm keeping that weight OFF

I don't know.... How much further do I need to go. Thursday and Friday I did about 1000 miles from KC, MO to Hot Springs, AR, tearing ass through the mountain twisties. The 2-3 sucks and is really sloppy. The others arent too terrible but so far I am seriously debating putting the weight back on. It wasn't like this before.

I keep hearing bad shit about the SVT's.....my shit is good ......maybe the tolerences that Ford goes by allow some people to have shit, and others to have good.....mine is the last of the last year, so I guess they got all the kinks out

just put it back on i guess......that or try to make another lighter weight

thing is, it SHOULDN'T be sloppier. it should only be easier to shift, with a little more of the notchyness that the weight covered up with tension........

If it is sloppier, I'd start checking cables........

.....and on another note, I like the notchyness....makes my car have that "mechanical" feel to it.......I like that. must be that old school muscle thing in me
