powerworks supercharger makes you do this for clearance issues on its install.
I have the ford racing SVT short throw so i will try this indeed! Thanks

I just removed my counterweight, can't wait to try it out. I'm cleaning my air filter meanwhile and it needs to dry... I tried shifting with the car off and it felt too notchy to my taste, so I drilled the weight off the bracket and put the bracket back on, seems better. I have a Steeda STS and VF rear mount also. Now I can cut the weight in half if necessary and put it back on rapidly with a bolt.

Yeah I love it too, I think I'll add a little weight on the bracket like half or less of the stock one.

Just did the mod.....OMG, why was this thing EVER installed!!! Love the "notchy-ness", feels more like a race car than an "gas-saver"

So I'm assuming that some of you have done this mod WITHOUT having a short-throw shifter? I've heard it's great with an STS, but have read mixed reviews of it with the stock shifter (which I still have for now).

Awesome write-up, BTW - thanks! (I know it's an "old" thread, but it's never too late for a "thank you"...)

It takes a while with the 3/8" ratchet, but the bolt comes off. Even my g/f liked the shifter better.
