new cars suck!!

Have you noticed that we are heading back into the late 60s early 70s when cars were heaier than a semi and had huge v8`s and ran 14`s and 13`s???

well i think we are heading back in thos days, all this technology and new cars that are supposed to be powerfull are still heavy i find this dissapointing. I mean you buy a car that costs 30-40 even 50 thousand dollars and they are heavy and may have 300-400 hp what does this sound like??? the muscle car era when cars cost up to 5,000 dollars. THis is annoying and i hate car manufactures.

Becareful what you wish for. If you want to see what the extreme is for making everything light, just look at what is happening with liter sport bikes. There's been numerous complaints of things failing because the manufacturers took the cries of all the enthusiasts to make the bike lighter and more powerful. Frame failures have been popping up more and more on the forums. Heck there's been a couple of cases where the foot peg broke off on the rider while they were riding. Fortunately, no wrecks from this.

On my bike, I can see how extreme things have gotten as far as shaving weight. Large bolts on my bike have the center of them drilled out to shave weight. My handle bars also have the center of them drilled out.

At a certain point, there's no free lunch...especially if you want reliability/durability and crash survivability.

right i see what your saying but that era where cars were fast as avirgin they didnt care about emmisions. now there so strick we can have 500 HP beast out the box and call it a day. theres to many laws now that govern the making of cars thats why everyone gets pissed about the foci overseas, there laws are not the same so they can do different things there that we like but cant have.

Also, don't forget that new cars have better safety features. Ie. air bags, ABS, traction control, stability control and so on. All those add weight to the vehicle as well.

when you start pushing 4-500 horse power you are going to need some solid parts. you try to through a drive shaft from an s10 into a 2001 camaro (wont work i know just using the size for example) SS with even just 325 hp that drive shaft is not going to hold. Parts like that are giong to have to be good solid metal. To be honost though i would take a 69 Chevy Camaro RS SS over any of the newer cars, but thats mostly because for its age and day it was a monster. Im sorry but I am dissipointed that they could get a 427 to push over 400 hp back then easy and the new vette has an aluminum block 427 and its only pushing 500.

they measured hp differently back then too, in a mustang mag a late 60's gt350 rated at 300hp dynoed lower than a 260hp gt mustang. like what was mentioned before, there's also the fact that the vette is putting out a lot less emissions too.

I think the original post was interesting because I took the exact opposite view. I said HELL YEAH, finally we are going back to the muscle cars. IT's about time! I was loving it when all these cars started coming up with crazy horsepower and still have decent gas mileage (compared to the muscle cars of the late 60's and 70's). Who cares about the extra added weight. Would you feel safer in a wreck in our focus' or say a... chrysler 300?
