rev matching
Im curious how well one can rev match in the new foci's. I have a ranger that is stick but 1/2 the time i try and rev match while up-shifting i grind gears. It could be that the transmission has 250k on it, and the synchros are worn, but im wondering if the focus transmissions are designed to be rev matched.

I have no poblems with rev-matching in my Focus. Even if the syncros are worn, rev-matching should make it easier for you to shift.

Well, the problem may be that you are trying to do it while upshifting. Rev-matching is really only neccesary for downshifting. There's no reason to blip the throttle on upshift. I personally rev-match all day long in the SVTF, but then I also treat daily driving like the world's biggest AutoX course...

i've been thinking, since i've never really had any formal training on driving a stick (i pretty much picked up a manual vehicle and went at it alone.. hawt), i was wondering if there are any good threads or websites that will tell the do's and donts of a manual transmission.
For example, 2 weeks ago I found out its bad to leave it in gear at a stop light and just have the clutch depressed.. I had no idea.

Do you mean having the clutch pedal depressed as in not having your foot on the clutch but having it in gear? This is pretty much impossible, the motor will not run if you do not give it RPMs to maintain an operating speed. The tranny will just bear down on the motor and kill it if you leave the tranny in gear and take your foot off the clutch while not moving anywhere. Or do you mean the clutch itself being depressed from the flywheel? When you have it in gear and your foot is on the clutch it is basically in a neutral state. The flywheel is moving and the clutch plate is not making contact, nothing is wrong about that. That happens all the time when you shift. You have to put it in gear anyway to take off. |

Even with the clutch pedal pressed down the clutch pressure plate and disc still touch some and it wears out the clutch some....if sittin at a light always put in nuetral and take your foot off the clutch.
