getting involved
i know that i am not the first or last to love rallying and similar motorsports, but i had a question on getting involved in it. how do they get up to the league where they are. do you just go to driving schools, autocrosses, etc??? or are there amateur rally courses??

A lot of them are found... a few knew people who knew people... basically... get good at your craft and they will find you... but REALLY good. If you wanna race in the US then move over youre looking getting together a race team, getting a car, and getting yourself noticed. BEfore that I would say go to driving school and make connections there gradually you'll meet someone who "knows a guy who knows a guy" then you go from there.

There are more than a few fully sponsored pros that made their way up through the SCCA. From AutoX to amatuer road-racing, and then on to pro racing. MANY get their start in Karting.
Road racing does cost a bundle, but AutoX doesn't and it's a fanatastic proving ground and friendly place to grow your skills. And trust me, it can be as competitve as you want it to be.

Probably your best bet is to go out with the BMW or Porsche clubs, as they allow any car in, and have open track and driver education days. They are also pretty cheap, especially when you consider many good schools can cost upwards of $3000.
